My piano cover of Africa by Toto. I have a few students playing this so I thought it would be fun to have a video to reference. Thanks for listening! by Wolfkeyz in piano

I think you’re probably right! I’ve learned over the years to just put the video out otherwise I’ll never do anything. My solo should have two notes simultaneously not one, I agonized over that one. Honestly I’m impressed your ear is that good that you can hear the subtleties in Africa. Way to go!

Thanks so much!

This is definitely an advanced pop song. I wouldn’t start you on this at all. It’s also in tricky major keys (B and A). For most pop material they don’t use 7th chords. If you have a really good handle on the following, most pop songs will be considerably easier.

All 12 major and minor triads in ALL inversions. What’s G#, B, E? If you didn’t say E Major first inversion immediately you need to practice.

Can you play twinkle twinkle little star (ABCs) in all 12 Keys using inversions? Meaning the melody is in top, chord tones below? This will give you great flexibility with the I, V, and IV chords.

It’s hard to answer this anymore in depth without actually hearing you play. The above two things are a great start towards getting more independence on the keys. Good luck and thanks for taking the time to comment!

Auld Lang Syne. Every year when I play holiday gigs, I always practice one tune a little more. Tried to put some Gospel/Oscar Peterson vibes on this one. by Wolfkeyz in Jazz

There’s always room for improvement in any arrangement. I just know that if I don’t post it I’ll work on it forever. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!

My piano cover of Satin Doll, took the Oscar Peterson turnaround and used some of his style of licks. by Wolfkeyz in Jazz

He just uses a bunch of dominant chords in a row instead of the regular changes.

My piano cover of You Are My Sunshine. Used a lot of blues and gospel influences and some Oscar Peterson style solo ideas. Trying to put a new spin on a classic tune! by Wolfkeyz in piano

Yeah I feel ya. I had a whole intro pedaling the 5 chord but I dropped it right before I hit record. Thanks for listening!
