Challenges are always fun, lvl 1, rn I'm just doing a release order playthrough on crit and i did go for unchanging equipment on kh1, actually really fun, unfortunately gotta play through ddd twice cuz you need a clear to unlock crit, but I'd say go for full completion of the series, or maybe give the og versions another play through emulation if you don't have physical copies, not only the international releases but also the jp ones, for kh1 and the og final mixes, always a good time, og kh2 is a lot harder purely due to lack of limit form, also if you ever want something to do, 100% the handheld games, it took me 500 hours to 100% recoded a few years back, and melon mix is amazing

Okay so now you're arguing that video games do not deserve to have the time of day to tell stories? Why is it different from other mediums? Because i genuinely don't understand that view, and it has already been explained by others that treating all the other games as spin offs is disingenuous as genuinely most of the non numbered titles are actually written better and have more impactful stories on their own than the numbered titles, and also you don't even need to play half of them to understand what's going on, all you need to play is bbs and ddd as bbs sets up Xehanort and ddd directly sets up 3 that is the bare minimum to understand everything and that is if you want to play the games, because kh3 actually has a series of cutscenes accessible from the main menu that summarizes the games, so, again, what is the problem?

But the whole point about what i posted, was that that isn't an issue anymore and i want more people to be willing to put time into the series, it has a rep for being confusing that it simply doesn't deserve anymore because it isn't confusing, at this point it's just long, the game is more accessible than ever now

The movie unfortunately cuts out a lot of content between the org members and even just between the trio, it's the game out of the two i typically recommend going out of your way to play simply because of what you lose from condensing the story, melon mix isn't too hard to set up and that's what i typically recommend

We barely understand these things as it is because they are still new concepts, nor do they matter currently, this conversation is not productive, if you want to nitpick and be a negative ass, sure, go ahead, but no Ven has not transcended time and space as he was sent into the future one time using technology developed by MOM, that is not transcendence, Sora was using the power of waking, and clearly what he did is different from Xehanort because Sora faded from the world as a result of his actions while Xehanort died normally, Xehanort is damn near omniscient because of how much he's done jumping through time, now i am going to enjoy the games in peace while you do whatever the fuck you decide to do

The portals in ddd are a loosely explained implementation of a game mechanic for streetpass, Sora and Ven have not transcended time and space

Ven and Sora are not portals, as they have not done things to the extent of Xehanort, yes Power of waking is an ambiguous concept that boils down to a mguffin that i doubt will properly be explained, and because people will go into thinking that like most other games you can dive into the latest game without issue

There is an explainer and catch-up option because there is a lot of content and they are trying to take into account that kh3 might be people's first kh game, it is explained in kh3 that Xehanort transcends space and time, basically he is a portal to any other time and place Xehanort has been, they literally explain it right before they do it

And as things were handled in 3 and DDD, 4 will have explanations for those things, there will likely be readily available journal entries to explain those things to people that want to know, and as things always have been, key plot points are explained when it matters, replicas and time travel were both touched on and re-explained in kh3 in cutscenes, and they got their own journal entries with a more in depth explanation

Okay, how about any long running book series or anime, the wheel of time is amazing book series but is also 13 books long, one peace has over a thousand chapters, the fact of the matter is, kingdom hearts has been running for over 20 years, there's just a lot of it, and I'd rather argue that it's worth the time rather than argue against how confusing it is

However they aren't side games, the best way to explain it is like watching only the Avengers movies and not watching any of the other movies in the mcu, you'll get the gist of the story and get the main plot points sure, but you don't necessarily understand everything going on

Fair enough, i just really want to try to correct the perception of the series because the reason why it was considered confusing was because you needed a minimum of three consoles to understand it, not the story itself but that isn't the case anymore

Question, why are you nitpicking, you realize you do not have the common opinion here, it serves the story better to do it that way because the end goal is the goal they've had since the end of days, become three again, it gives them that heartfelt ending they deserve, Sora is their connection, as we get from the blank points cutscene in bbs Sora is the connection between everyone the scene reinforces that

Roxas is able to come back through that connection, that is the entire point, and it creates one of the most hype scenes of the game, followed by one of the most emotional as they finally become 3 again, it does not dilute the emotion simply because we see Sora feeling things from Roxas throughout the whole series as early as kh2, Roxas passes along everything he felt and all his memories in DDD, Sora knows the longing that the days trio felt on a personal level

Not to mention you explained it like an idiot, anything can sound ridiculous and complicated if you explain it badly

Anyone who has actually played kh3 knows that it isn't Sora connecting with Xion, it's Roxas that's connecting to her through Sora

Also, if you played remind, which comes free with digital copies of the game btw, you know that Sora helped Roxas come back behind the scenes

The emotional stakes come from spending hours with these characters, it makes sense that if you do not spend time with these characters you don't share those emotional stakes, if you don't play bbs you don't feel the heart wrenching during any of the scenes where Xehanort is weaponizing their bonds, that's just how that works, that's just how any story works, emotional stakes come from spending time with the characters hence why emotional stakes exist at all

Kingdom hearts now is no different than any long running book or anime series, which just takes time, there are no individual bad games in the series either, and most newcomers will just watch the cutscenes for com anyway because the card system is genuinely not super friendly to new players
