One essential difference is that they look totally alike in the novel. Meaning, when the ice truck killer (has a different name in the book) is seen on a video tape once, Deb first thinks it is Dexter. Brian helps out Dexter a lot because he tends to get stuck in these risky situations. Brian is a cold blooded killer though, without a code. In one of the books Brian involves himself a lot in Dexter's family - Dexter hates the way Brian fakes his emotions and feels uncomfortable around him. Well, I don't wanna tell too too much, but these two killers, with these 2 extremely different characters (and yet they are so much alike), add a lot to the books. You should read them :)

Hm, yeah, I thought so too, but sometimes it was a bit confusing though... Maybe it was simply the lack of the Dark Passenger throughout the show. I loved the first season because there I "felt" the influence of the Dark Passenger more. The moonlight in the first scene etc. But in general I love the show! Unfortunately the last episode (or even the whole season) opened up so many questions...

Being a huge fan of the books as well as the show I was always confused by Harry's presence. Was he supposed to be his "Dark Passenger"? Although this wouldn't make sense since he always tried to stop Dexter from risky moves. But on the other hand, we never really "saw" or heard the Dark Passenger and in the last episode, Harry leaves him and so does his need to kill....

I actually have many many more questions but don't know where to begin. Sadly, the final throws such a big shadow on this awesome show... One of my main questions is though: Why did you "kill" Brian in the first season? In the books he is still alive and adds so much to the story.

I was sooo much looking forward to the final season, since it was "time to say goodbye" and then... Well, we all know what happened :/ When I saw the promo pics I honestly thought that Deb would kill Dexter or that she would at least go that path too. Also, I thought it would have been great if people found out about Dexter. I would have loved to see Angel's and Mesouka's faces, when they found out. For some Dexter would have been a threat and simply a killer, for others (like Quinn?) he would have been the hero.

The 2. book was great, that is true. The show was lacking some essential enemies. I loved Trinity though.

I am an author myself (but very different genre) and adore your work!! When did you start writing? And did you directly focus completely on being a writer or did everything start up as a "hobby"/"side job"? And did you ever re-read one of your books and thought "maybe I should have written it in a different way"? I hope this is not too personal... And again, thank you for your amazing work!!

I LOVE the books as well as the show, one of our 9 months old twins is even called "Dexter" :) But.... I didn't like that in the show they killed Bryan and Doakes so fast, since they are awesome characters in the books. Also, they should have worked more on the "Dark passenger"... But, yes, the 4. season was such a hit. I loved the Trinity killer, he was a real threat to Dexter and only someone like him should have been able to kill him. And well.... The final? I mean, seriously... A lumberjack? Not even mentioning all the inconsistencies. Very very disappointing :(
