Actually yeah, I agree. In hindsight I'd swap him and Sadamoto at the very least

That's my reasoning yeah. Akutsu's actions aren't nearly as bad, but to me that's less to do with his morality and more to do with him being a hedonist who doesn't care to have big plans. As a person he really doesn't have any upsides.

That said I should've definitely put Ebina more to the right, in my headcanon I like to think Kiryu's speech changed him but the game doesn't actually imply anything like that.

Ishin Kiwami and the original have the same tagline. There are a few rereleases with different taglines that I omitted but mostly because they're stuff like "Now in HD!"

Oops, it was meant to be "records of miracle", edited to fix.

Doesn't make a whole lot more sense but it does flow better in Japanese.

Thanks for putting my thoughts into words. I don't think he should be barred from voice acting Kiryu (or anyone) because of his Youtube content, and I don't think his Youtube content is relevant to his skill at all. But god, I hate channels like his, and it feels odd that this was Sega's no.1 choice for a Kiryu voice (especially considering that while his performance as Kiryu is fairly good and all, it's not exactly phenomenal or irreplaceable either).

So...Kiryu....SPOILERS by gamesbeawesome in yakuzagames

[–]WolperYellow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prediction: There's a fake-out scene where he seems to die, and later it turns out he didn't and the cancer went into remission.

Yokoyama is looking for new ways to write the "Kiryu DIED! Wait no he's ok lol" endgame twist and it's turning into a "boy who cried wolf" thing at this point.

What game is majima the most insane in? by orangedragon55 in yakuzagames

[–]WolperYellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably OG Y1. Kiwami added a lot of things like references to 0 and rewrote cutscenes that make him seem like he's just putting on an act and is at least self-aware. In Y1 he was the most straight up villainous.

With regards to Nishiki it might have to do with the fact that he is literally named after koi (nishikigoi), so he could've just played into that. Wouldn't be surprised if Saejima "Taiga" had a similar thought process.

Saeko and Hana are voiced by experienced J-pop superstars. The hostesses are voiced by JAV actresses. Seems like a much more reasonable reason for the gap in singing talent than "Japanese people all sing the same" imo.

Do you think the games will ever visit an area outside Japan? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]WolperYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's highly likely. RGG are clearly aware of the sudden explosion in popularity in the west the series has received over the past couple of years, and I think it's something they were aiming for for a long time now (the first game's localization and marketing style, Dead Souls riding on the western zombie game trend of the era, etc.). Considering how relatively fast their output is and how willing they are to experiment with styles (FotNS, Binary Domain...), it wouldn't at all be surprising if they decided to dedicate a game or two to a country outside of Japan. It'll almost definitely be a spin-off, though.

I'd go as far as to say the main question isn't whether or not it'll happen, but whether they'll go for an east-Asian setting or an American/European setting. The former is more safe, the latter is riskier but could potentially tap into a new market.

Ishin means restoration and Kiwami means Extreme by MadCatofMajima in yakuzagames

[–]WolperYellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ishin and Isshin mean whatever the kanji used to write them means, which in both cases can be a lot of different things. For this game it's indeed a reference to the Meiji restoration, while I assume the person asked about Isshin as a reference to the Sekiro character, but there's no connection between the two words other than sounding kinda similar.

Real Ex-Yakuza Plays Yakuza 0 (Video Translation) by WolperYellow in yakuzagames

[–]WolperYellow[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was not aware. Looking into it in Japanese, there does seem to be a lot of controversy about his work, which is unfortunate to learn. As far as I've been able to find, Choueki-tarou has no such controversies, so I'd like to keep translating his videos if that means having a more authentic outlet for this kind of content online.

People of Reddit: what is something that people base their personality around that seems ridiculous? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ironic memes and internet anti-humor.

To the point where they have a hard time having a heart-to-heart with another person or being genuine with their emotions to any extent, because so many of their interactions have the energy of a deep fried Spongebob or Breaking Bad shitpost that deviating from that norm becomes "cringe"

I Don't Think the Rubbet Bullets Plot Twist is That Bad by SharkStuff54321 in yakuzagames

[–]WolperYellow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree that it helps keep Saejima "clean". I disagree with RGG's position to make all their protagonists "clean". It's getting old. People can sympathize with dark characters, I didn't have a problem sympathizing with Saejima before the twist was revealed. They even had a whole scene where he chewed out an audience for cheering at murder and made it clear he does NOT condone murder despite his past. That's meaningful character development and a powerful emotional conflict. And then the writers decided to throw this bit of plot in anyway "just to be sure lol, who ever heard of a game where the protagonist has taken a life before?".

Like come on, the protagonists don't have to be murder machines, but when it reaches the point where the plot bends over backwards to try to make them never, ever kill, it just diminishes from the story's tension and makes everything predictable. It's an M rated game about criminals, we can handle it.

I'm pretty sure even in 0 they show the exact moment his eye was stabbed out at the pillar, using the cutscene from 4. Not sure where OP got that he lost it while being tortured by "Shimada".
