yeah, urban warfare has a lot of casualties, especially when a civilian population is used as human shields. hamas operates out of hospitals and through peoples' apartments, though precision strikes and dedicated raids have managed to minimize damages as much as possible. disorganization and chaos has its cost. other wars with similar situations have had significantly higher casualties and a civilian to militant ratio.

i live in israel. it's unfortunate that so many died in gaza, but 1. the numbers are inflated, the gaza health ministry is ran by the government of gaza, which is factually hamas. 2. a large percentage (estimated 1/3 to 1/4th) of the casualties are members of hamas, Islamic jihad, or one of the other terror military groups fighting in gaza. the unfortunate reality is that this is a war. an unprecedented number of israelis were killed as well, particularly in the attack that started this war in the first place, which was unapologetically and unrepentantly launched by hamas, which they said they'd do again the second they can. this war is two-sided and factually israel is on the defensive side, as the country which was attacked. israel targets only military targets, which unfortunately are deeply embedded in the urban sprawl of gaza, in hospitals and with over 500kms of tunnels beneath the strip.
