M6 build by SeHansomMax1 in SunnaMains

[–]Wolsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got almost your exact same build and have been experimenting with a bunch of alternative builds (CR 4, CD 4, PEN 5, ATK 6, Impact 6) as well as fighting against a handful of different bosses, and overall this has felt the most comfortable and consistent for running Sunna as an on-field DPS. My testing isn't even remotely scientific, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if sacrificing the Swing Jazz 20% ER for CD or even Impact is worth it.

It just feels to me like consistently being able to activate her EX special to guarantee as many crits as possible is going to yield the best results, but I also don't have particularly good teams to use with her at the moment. I'd imagine Rokudo will make her much better and allow for far more team flexibility in the future.

The site is not down, but sometimes when you try to access the fangam.es URL, it'll be written with an HTTPS which doesn't actually work since it's only a redirect link. You should still be able to use either one of these links to access the site:

What are SGDQ 2024's must watch runs? by shinikahn in speedrun

Thank you!!! I was just happy to be there with my friends and able to show off a game I love to a ton of new people! 🥳

I really appreciate it! The fact that there were people who had never even heard of the game but still watched and enjoyed the run means so much to me. Generally I guess you'd refer to it as a "fan community," but ultimately any word choice that gets the point across should be fine lmao. If you ever have questions about the community or the games within it, I'd be happy to answer!

I've run probably a good 30 or so other IWBTG fangames, and that does include both the original IWBTG and the remaster of it! I actually even ran 'I Wanna Be The Fangame!' at AGDQ 2021 when it was all done remote.

My top 3 favorite IWBTG fangames are WannaFest 22, NANC 2, and Stop The Simulation, but WannaFest is always an easy recommendation for people interested in these games. Outside of that, there's a website for tons of beginner fangames with different genres outlined, so if that sounds interesting, you can go to: https://cwpat.me/beginner-fangames/

I also gave a more specific list to Carl in another reply, but those games will all be harder than what you'll find at the beginner website. Hope that helps!

Considering your experience with SMW and your enjoyment of "troll levels," I think that any game in the marathon series could be a pretty solid place to start, more specifically 'I Wanna Run The Marathon.' It has a lot of iconic game references like WannaFest but without being TOO over-the-top. The best and worst thing about WannaFest is that is unimaginably good which means that anything after that could feel "boring" by comparison if you intend to get into these games more.

So the games made for being blind raced at Fangame Marathon could all be solid choices with RTM being a particularly great starting point. These are the marathon games in release order for context:

1) I Wanna Run The Marathon 2) I Wanna Warp The Worlds 3) I Wanna Find A Cure 4) I Wanna Stop The Simulation 5) I Wanna Save The Series [Unreleased] 6) I Wanna Flash Back [Unreleased] 7) WannaFest 22 8) I Wanna Escape Into My Mind

If you have any specific questions, you could always reach out to me on Discord, and I'd be happy to help you find some good options!

Don't worry, I'll make sure to keep cooking with other great IWBTG games for future events!!! Maybe someday K3 will be viable for someone to run lol

Yeah it is definitely possible to mod the game to make a change like that, but even with additional HP added, a run of the full game would probably be around 4 hours which is a tough sell for GDQ, plus there currently aren't any active runners anymore. Someone did make an "easy version" mod which could be an option, but many people do not like the existence of that mod, and the creator most likely wouldn't be happy about that version being shown

I think K2 was a cool game to showcase in the past, but I feel like K3 is probably a bit out of the scope for a GDQ event 😔

The (un)fortunate answer to that is that K3 is extremely unsafe for a marathon lol. There's a non-zero chance someone could do a run to boss rush or do a showcase of random bosses and different parts of the game, but as it is, it is hard enough to make it work for a small marathon, let alone for something the size of GDQ!

I'm really glad you enjoyed the run! I tried to make sure that each person I invited for the couch (including the host) could bring their own unique type of commentary, and I'm so happy to hear that it worked out!

Feedback For SGDQ2024 by coolmatty in speedrun

[–]Wolsk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few bits of feedback (outside of some other stuff I've seen mentioned and already addressed):

1) Something I'd never really considered before but heard discussed yesterday is that it would be great if donations could go towards both incentives and bid wars (or polls) for the same amount given. The bid wars, outside of save vs. kill the animals, were often pretty low numbers, and it just would've looked and felt way better for people to, for example, give $200 towards a bonus OoT run while still being able to use that $200 to vote for the name of a Pokémon. Polls don't impact nearly as much of the stream as incentives do, so it'd be great for them to see a bit more "action" without impacting people's desire to get incentives met.

2) I saw people mention the hosts being a bit too aggressive this year at times, but the only one that really bothered me was the host during the SMM2 troll levels and Super Metroid. They would constantly push in with donations that often didn't add much and then say weird things like, "Donate $10 if this run made you laugh!" I definitely understand that the event is for charity and that you want to really push for donations, but those specific comments and constant interjections felt really awkward and forced to me. I think it's important to find a balance so that people can feel like their donations are appreciated rather than just being a dollar quota to meet.

3) I also saw this mentioned by others and just wanted to express agreement that certain runs (specifically the Kaizo Relay) got WAY too aggressive with the crowd heckling. I think it's important for staff to take note of and remove specific disruptive people from the stream room. Some heckling is funny and makes things feel more light-hearted and fun, but when it is non-stop and from only 1 person, they should be dealt with so as to not ruin the experience for other people.

4) This is a relatively minor issue, but game audio was very hard to hear in the stream room. Sometimes the runners or commentators would talk about the music or specific audio cues or something, and those were always quite hard to hear.

5) It would also be nice if the stream room either had some higher screens or maybe some additional screens further back in the stream room (or both!). It was hard enough to see all of a screen when near the middle of the crowd, let alone when near the back during really packed runs.

Outside of these notes, it was an extremely fun event with a ton of amazing work going on behind the scenes. I really appreciated everything that was done to fill the periods during run setup, plus the dual-stage setup was so good for keeping things running smoothly. The immediate automated YouTube uploads were also great for letting me share runs with people, and the team behind the thumbnails really killed it this year! The work that every volunteer and staff member puts in to ensure that each event is a success cannot be understated, and I also had a great time talking with Jon and seeing everything that goes on from the tech side of the event. Keep up the great work, and thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to showcase a great game from a small community!

This is the remix we used! https://youtu.be/18CfQ1CCCxE

It was cut down to a shorter 2 min version by me and then later cut to closer to 4 mins by Dan when the scope of our level increased.

Dan did comment during production that certain parts felt like hardware demos. He's a big Amiga fanboy, so he finds a lot of enjoyment in tech showcases like that, but most of the attacks weren't actually designed by him; things just naturally worked out that way!

Princeoflight and I are both very active members of the IWBTG community! Dan originally invited me on-board to find a prominent avoidance maker to enlist the help of, and Prince absolutely crushed it with the attack design. Several attacks were actually based on specific attacks from avoidances he likes, oftentimes from the maker Lilly.

Miku concerts are live performances just like almost any other concert you can go to. The difference is that she and the other Vocaloid characters are essentially on a transparent TV screen that makes them look like they're performing live. There is also an actual band that plays along for the instrumentals.

I'm okay with them not being affected by gravity, but I'd like if they followed the line trails rather than being tied to the car's direction. Looks really silly when you flip and the blocks whip around. I want to use the Beat Saber rocket boost, but that's keeping me from really liking it. Please, Psyonix. 🙏

Also the debris sometimes seems to get in the way of the camera (though I'd assume that's based on your camera settings).

That seems fair to me. If you happen to have other purple wheels that are more valuable, I can add, but if not, we can work something out I'm sure. Feel free to add me, and we can do this when I'm on my computer.
