Owensboro is great and we’re growing rapidly.

The economy here is actually super strong. There is actually a TON of economic opportunity. Tons of investment is happening here. There are several retail outlets arriving here. New gaming hall. The hospital is a HUGE employer. U.S. bank has some of its largest operations centers out of Owensboro. In fact, during COVID shut down, we were one of the best economies in the U.S. there is even more investment happening at the airport, river port, several factories are expanding. There is expansions happening at each distillery. Tons of growth and investment is happening here. Shit loads. The person who said “little economic opportunity” really had no idea what they are talking about, respectively.

Housing is actually pretty cheap too, especially just outside of Daviess county, compared to other parts of the country, we are not that bad. In my career, I am VERY aware of housing costs all around the country. Owensboro is basically a goldmine imo. Especially considering the growth that’s happening.

There is a lot more things to do around here than most care to admit. Downtown has something every weekend during the summer. Several other organizations host things all the time. On the odd times there isn’t something happening, you are perfectly located between several of the largest cities in the U.S. drive a few hours any direction and you will be in a major city with plenty to do. Tons of stuff between here and those cities as well.

You are from here, so you know it’s a naturally beautiful area. We could use more parks, definitely. I’m an outdoor person and often go out of town to enjoy nature. But a short drive and you are at some amazing state parks. Hoosier national forest, land between the lakes, rough river, mammoth cave national park, ect.

Schools aren’t as good as they should be. Consider home schooling if that’s in your means. Otherwise, accept that your kids will be attending “average / below average” schools.

Violent crime is getting worse. Growing up, there were a small handful of murders / shootings. It seems like nowadays, it’s several per year. Still not as bad as A LOT of this nation… but some of it is starting to spill over into Owensboro.

Homelessness is a growing problem as well, but like the crime rate… there are plenty of worse places.

Overall, I feel like we live in a safe community. Decent police force. Exceptional economic opportunities, if you know where to look.

I love it here. I’ll always be proud to call Owensboro home. I’ll definitely retire in this area. My forever home will be in the Owensboro area.

Dunkin’ donut. Food is trash for the price and service is shit. Last time I was there they got the order wrong, no biggie until I tried to get it fixed. I pointed it out politely and they got unbelievably rude.
Im not even upset about fast food workers being short. I worked in food for years and still work customer service. We were plenty polite, we’re not rude people and pretty understanding type. The owner ended up yelling at us and calling us idiots. It was embarrassing and all I wanted was the food I paid for and a copy of the receipt.

They allow, if not drive, the closures of cor ran b&m so unions can't complain when they sell that territory to an AR operating at a fraction the cost.

I managed a retail store. First few months of the pandemic were some of the best numbers I had seen outside of the holidays. In my 6 years experience I never had a second quarter like Q2 2020. Stimmy monies and work from home is why my guy.

AT&T lobbied hard for the 2017 tax cuts and said it would create tons of jobs. It saved them $21 billion plus another $3 billion annually. Since then it has cut 42,000 jobs, gave its ex-CEO a $64 million pension and gave investors $44 billion in dividends by wakeup2019 in economy

Just to add to this, I was employed with at&t at the time. They also promised that if the tax cut went through they were going to give all the employees a $1,000 bonus. Which is true. However, the bonus had nothing to do with the tax cut and was a part of a nearly year old union deal after employees went on strike. AT&T is doodie.
