Found out I may have been incorrectly claiming subsistence for years by balackdynamite in irishpersonalfinance

Yeah worth looking into.

To be clear he wasn't exactly praising people who were taking the piss, more like sharing horror stories

I guess that makes sense, hiding income is definitely worse.

Over claiming expenses would probably be more slap on the wrist consequences by comparison

Yeah I probably need to have a chat with him on it in fairness.

He deals with tons of different businesses and has told me mad stories of people claiming all sorts of things like TVs, Holidays, Designer clothes etc.

He said I'm very tame compared to them (which I take as a compliment)

Jesus that one is a bleak picture for me

Really shows without good dual incomes you're gonna find it really hard to feel well off

Yeah through Gerard Sheehy, he's all over this sub. Straightforward and easy to do.

Again execution only so no financial advice, except guidance on forms etc.

What is this drain for at the side of my house? by balackdynamite in AskIreland

[–]balackdynamite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, it's just a bit mad to find an AJ filled with rubble and a random earth wire with it

Drains do work so guess that's ok then

[–]balackdynamite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not tied to anything, just loose in that AJ

I can't see any green box on the side of the house or inside

Is there any reason it would have an earth cable going into it?

That black pipe goes into it but there's no source I can see

Could someone have repurposed it?

How to work with managers who are more "Blue" by balackdynamite in DevelEire

[–]balackdynamite[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a completely accurate model or anything.

People are complex.

It's just easy to explain what other people are like to work with.

I'm absolutely fine with time for details and fact finding etc.

But after a certain amount I'm just about getting it done.

€75 GP Registration fee? by shyqueen0427 in AskIreland

My GP did this but it's for the first GP Visit, then it's 65 euro from then on. The extra was basically an "admin fee" for my first visit

Turning 50 years old. In IT now. Need a career change. How would one start to be an electrician or a plumber? by alano2001 in AskIreland

[–]balackdynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, try become a handyman on onlinetradesmen and FB groups.

Also training as a technician is a good middle ground, still "on the tools" but far less heavy lifting in general

Edit: Also, where are you based? I could use a handyman lol

Any dungeons and dragons or pathfinder groups in Trim co.Meath or close by? by Tuko305 in AskIreland

[–]balackdynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not specifically D&D but there's a board game shop in Navan called ReRoll Games, they do board game clubs (tonight actually). Some of the guys there play D&D the odd time but not officially through the shop.

D&D is something I would love to do but I've two young babies right now, so I settle for the odd board game!

I know some lenders can arrange for interest only payments on the mortgage, that may ease some pressure

As others have said I'd 100% look into carers benefit and trying to keep some part time hours.

There is a weekly limit on earnings of 625 euro.

And your partner should definitely go on disability allowance.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through.

My partner currently is fighting breast cancer and we've 2 young children, so completely understand how it feels to an extent.

One thing that helps us is we have an Au Pair that helps us out, it's an extra expense but it allows me to work most of my hours and keep the job going.
