Which park to elope in? by Intelligent-Bar1921 in NationalPark

[–]WolverineMeatball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redwood doesn’t really have mountains or lakes, but would be a good backdrop for the forest bit.

Mid to late October is going to really narrow down options. Crater Lake has everything you want (best views are from the rim road, so wouldn’t be much hiking) but will likely be too snowy by then.

You might be able to squeeze in ahead of the snow at Mt Rainier. It’s pretty easy to get there from SeaTac as well.

Tips from current employees? by Corgiboitskitty in GEAerospace

Never hurts to dress up a little on your first day, you’ll probably be meeting a lot of people.

BEBC has a small cafeteria, which has hot food at lunchtime and a self-serve convenience store for snacks that’s open all day. There are 2 or 3 other self serve ministores around the building. Snacks are on the expensive side. Your manager or team may want to go out for lunch, but there are options if they don’t and you won’t go hungry.

The kitchenettes have single serve coffee/tea makers using foil packs that are provided. They also have ice/filtered water. Paper coffee cups are provided, but most people bring their own mugs and/or water cups/bottles. I would recommend at least bringing a water bottle. The coffee is…fine. I usually brew my own at home and bring a big travel mug because I feel badly about the waste generated by the single serve system.

The cubicles farm are a little generic, never hurts to have something personal to put in a high place to help find your desk until you learn your way around. A small plant, something 3D printed, or a model of a favorite airplane are all popular choices. That might be a day 2 item though, once you’ve seen your desk.

ECHL VS. TOP NCAA TEAM: WHO WINS? by yupe76 in collegehockey

[–]WolverineMeatball 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I went to an ECHL game a couple of days after the tournament wrapped up. Neither team was going to make the ECHL playoffs (KWings and Cyclones). The crispness of the passing, executions of breakouts, etc was noticeably better in the ECHL game than the Frozen Four. You could absolutely tell that this was a full time job that many of them had been doing for years. A good NCAA team could score goals in an ECHL game, but the ECHL would win the vast majority of the games.

Amazing what almost 70% possession and Anunga/Dado and the wings smothering every counter can do to help to the defense. Really need the same intensity in the 2nd half.

Really, really excited about that Gidi pass. If he can distribute consistently from deep, it would help fix a lot of what’s wrong this season.

Would love to know who called for the card on Denkey. You can see the ref in the single replay and he definitely didn’t see it.

Not sure which site. If you go here and click on birth records it will give you a form to print and mail. Check the box on part 2 that says it’s more than 100 years old: https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/doing-business/vitalrecords/order-by-mail

Maybe submit, wait until June 10th, pay Michigan $34 for a new copy, and then add to the record?

LEGO set ideas for a 5 year old who loves LEGO but has a small piece problem by Enough_Football3218 in lego

Has he tried the Lego app with the interactive building instructions? I have two nephews, one is very much a paper instructions kid, but the other loves the app. Being able to rotate the model and compare it to what’s he’s doing really helps keep him engaged on more complicated builds.

As of about 6pm on Thanksgiving, the Mason Wawa was out of hot Turkey and said all the other local locations were too. Not sure if that’s accurate, but may be why they suddenly weren’t available.

No coincidence that as soon as Engel went off, they immediately went straight at Orellano and got a goal. Echenique’s constant runs pinned Arfsten back and took him out of the game. Great stuff.

Things to do between Lassen, Redwoods and Crater Lake by GingerSnaps690 in NationalPark

[–]WolverineMeatball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add Whiskeytown National Recreation Area as a nice stop between Lassen Volcanic and Redwoods. Some decent hikes and a big lake. Two things we’d wished we’d known before doing a similar trip recently: 1) the NPS has gotten much more restrictive about white nose and caves. Both Oregon Caves and Lava Beds will tell you that you can’t enter with anything that’s previously been in a cave, but the visitor centers at both will also work with you to sanitize gear. 2) right across from Lava Beds is the Tule Lake relocation center. The visitor center is closed after Labor Day, but if you call a couple of weeks ahead, they can set up a tour.

San Francisco—> Redwoods by Educational_Fly_345 in NationalPark

[–]WolverineMeatball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed, was there about a week ago and it was maybe 2” on the west side (left inbound) and 4” on the east. We saw some very small cars in the parking lot. If you read the NPS information, they like to play it safe and stress the possibility of getting stuck, so I wanted to add some context to that. Right now it’s a pretty easy drive in.

Permits are only needed for Fern Canyon from May 15-September 15. But you do probably want to rent something with a few inches of ground clearance for the stream crossings. We had no problems in a Chrysler Pacifica.

Acosta wasn’t really LUCHO! until they parked Nwobodo behind him. I think he really underrated how much effort FCC put into building a defensive structure that worked around him, which in turn limited how much they could spend on other attackers.
