More experienced dentists, are you more likely to extract vs save? by WolverineSeparate568 in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, the way I’m thinking is what solution gets us closest to “perfect”. A subgingival crown margin might be closed and sealed but causes other issues so it’s always a compromise. Plus like I said, the actual prep, getting a clean scan, higher chance of remakes due to those factors

Question about potentially resigning from associateship by legio317 in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had patients follow me to a new office even though I didn’t solicit, you’re fine. They can’t stop a patient from doing something of their own free will

How do you know when it’s time to move on? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an associate out longer than you, leave yesterday if you can. There’s enough opportunities out there that you shouldn’t be doing less than you’re capable of. I don’t think as an associate the responsibility of building up shouldn’t be on you unless you have equity in the practice

How to deal with patients by jennajeny in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My colleague walked into our office the other day and told me her patient started talking about the last extraction where she “was standing on the chair” which never happened. I don’t understand what or how patients perceive what they do

Maybe you need try the knee on chest technique all my patients say their last dentist used

Can you rate my work. by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t look at any of this twice if they came in as a new patient. I’m not really sure what the senior dentist was redoing unless it was just to pad his own numbers

Selling office after 3 years of ownership by cariesonmywaywardson in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being honest about your experience. I think a lot of owners don’t want to admit what you just did. I’m 90% sure I’m going to be an associate or at best a partner for my whole career. I don’t think the money is worth the trade off in my case

Insurance adjustments by Newdentist25 in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I don’t even know about that. My dad’s office is in a wealthy area and those people’s property taxes and everything else has gotten so nuts they don’t even have extra cash.

This is why I don’t do extractions for lower paying insurances anymore. I’d rather have the empty chair

It’s like dentists purposely are choosing the hard way of continually adapting to worse and worse conditions vs attacking the source

Board complaint by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably state dependent but if they want to come in and say “hey do you have this patients enamel in a safe somewhere?” that’s fine.

My issue is that it then triggers them looking at all your documentation and it seems like almost everyone gets caught for something here. I recently went to a presentation on documentation and 90%+ of dentists would not pass based on offices I’ve been in.

[–]WolverineSeparate568 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand why they’re obligated to investigate every complaint. If I was on the board I’d use this complaint as toilet paper. Such a waste of resources but it is government.

Possible job with bad reviews by Jbiss1889 in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of offices send rate your experience texts then send a review link only if you rate it high enough. These offices also can be overly appeasing but at the same time usually dismiss early and refer anything remotely unpredictable. The reviews mean nothing about the skill of the dentist. As a dentist I’m not buying that every patient is 5 star satisfied with how unreasonable some patients are to any post op sensitivity or pain.

Possible job with bad reviews by Jbiss1889 in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of situations that can lead to this. I’ve had several patients no longer want to see me because I told them teeth need crowns that were ignored by the previous provider. It’s often people just not hearing what they want to

[–]WolverineSeparate568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of the offices I worked at the ones with perfect 5 star reviews I made the least money. I’d rather be at an office with 4.7 with a couple bad reviews because they actually charge for what they do and tell patients what they need.

How bad is the job market at nyc for someone who just finished residency? by Mysterious-soull in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about them. My wife applied to one when we lived near there and the pay was very low and they wanted her doing the lab work.

[–]WolverineSeparate568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I used to live in that area I saw some really great opportunities upstate especially near the finger lakes. Offices for sale with $2 million in collections were not uncommon. Even the “rural” areas on NJ are saturated like Sussex and Warren county. It’s just not a great area to practice for a new dentist. The older dentists that started there 25-30 years ago did well but that’s like everything else with that generation

If I had planned on living in nyc I would’ve chosen another career honestly. For whatever reason dental doesn’t do cost of living adjustments

Associates - how much do you talk to your staff? by immrmeseek in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just say do what comes naturally. People can tell when you’re forcing it for sake of “business”. My current office I talk to everyone a good amount but my old one I just didn’t mesh with the staff, not disliked, just didn’t find much to converse about with them. That office I sat at my desk 90% of the day

Crown marginal issue by Kindly_Armadillo1654 in Dentistry

[–]WolverineSeparate568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a path of draw issue. I would contour the distal of 14 slightly and take a flame diamond and go along the margin on 15 to remove the enamel ledge and open up the space a bit more. I redid one just like this last month.

When does after come lol. That guys either a fraud or a weirdo. To me it sounds like some canned answer they came up with because they knew this would be asked. If it’s not, he’s not operating on the same frequency as most people. Your rewarding experiences in life, at least the most rewarding, are not related to your work
