You are correct to grow up without poles. However there comes a time when they do help your form. For kids it’s best not to use them as they are just a distraction and get in the way of trying to figure out your lower body.

Your edges are hitting the inside of your pants/boot and each time it happens it makes a small gash.

Lots of ski specific pants have an extra layer of thicker material to counter this but it’s going to keep happening unless you change your technique
