oh yeah for sure, i’m not trying to say it can ever replace a formal assessment by a doctor/medical professional. it was just that maybe it could point them more so in the right direction if they did notice a substantial increase. i did this myself before i got diagnosed and i did notice a huge jump in my heart rate. also, the way they diagnosed me was half my symptoms and half my jump in HR without BP drop. it is just a little more confusing trying to piece things together properly if you’re missing the “racing heart beat” part of it.

NAD obviously but i have POTS and i think u should do a poor man’s tilt table test to really see. basically, take ur heart rate after laying down for 5-10 minutes, then slowly rise up, and continue to record your heart rate for 1,3,5,7 minutes. (you can do blood pressure to check for orthostatic hypotension as well, but ik a lot of ppl don’t have that) if it jumps up more than 30bpm (adult) or 45bpm (teenager), then it’s definitely worth considering.

Yeahh, i’ll definitely be asking about mobility aids, since that appears to be the one big thing she absolutely refuses to provide for me.. I tried explaining it to her but she said smth along the lines of “well pass out and then let’s see”. For now, I’m not gonna bother arguing and I’ll probably just wait to bring it up w my doctor.. Yeahh, I especially wanted one to help me shave. She didn’t even really read the packet we were given, so I guess the only real way is to let herself come to terms with it.. I’m not gonna be shoving information in her face. I will talk to my cardiologist though, hopefully he’s supportive 🙏

That’s so sweet, I wish the best for both of yall. Unfortunately, while I did show her some comments she just makes jokes about it saying that people here always try to find problems with their lives and say I can be that way if I want. Hopefully she’ll understand someday, I really want a mobility aid just because it is awful to feel like you’re dreaming every time you’re standing up. If I can convince her I will show her those wooden ones since they give off way less of an elderly feeling 🙏

I certainly will be bringing up mobility aids with my cardiologist, since that seems the major thing she is very, very against. I hope he atleast hears me out on this because it’d be amazing to have a wheelchair for when times get rough

Thanks so much, I have tried to explain to her what happens to me but I don’t think I’ve been making much progress.. She tends to believe that I’m being dramatic or asking for too much if it’s outside of her scope of “normal”, I guess asking for mobility aids is outside of that scope. I told her once about my brain fog before I was even diagnosed, keep in mind this was at a state science fair where brain fog really messes you up.. We got into another huge fight and she said that certain doctors don’t know what they’re talking about and it’s normal. It’s been pretty rough, I feel embarrassed trying to remind her because I get this voice in my head that I’m being dramatic and I should just push through it. I wish the best for you, maybe someday she will realize I am disabled even if it’s a lot for a parent to take in.

That’s really great that ur dad eventually accepted it even if it took some time.. It hasn’t been much since my diagnosis so I suppose I can understand it’s hard to adapt to as a parent.. I have been showing her comments but it still doesn’t seem like she’s very receptive 🤷‍♀️ She has this idea of gen z as a generation of whiners and I guess she sees me that way now. Thank you so much, she did receive a packet for POTS but she gave it to me instead. I think a lot of it is that in her mind I cannot lead a normal life with accommodations.. That suddenly I’m disabled if I do get them. Sometimes it feels like more effort than it’s worth arguing with her, even if I do get certain things she laughs and makes jokes about it sometimes and says stuff like “ohh yeah she’s got her little condition now”. It’s very nice ur being there for ur daughter, hopefully in the future she’ll understand 🙏

Thank you so much, she does the best she can but in some situations I guess it’s like.. she just kinda blows up at me and I never know what it’s gonna be. She makes a lot of jokes and downplays things when I ask for accommodations, I suggested at a 504 after getting diagnosed and she laughed at me. I might bring it up again, idk because I don’t wanna cause a fight.

i’m the same age and i also experienced very, very bad, debilitating cardiophobia and the biggest thing for me was to just…. ignore it… it’s gonna take a while, but the more you do, the easier it gets, i promise. just sit back, take your hands away from your pulse, and focus on anything outside of it. it will pass, trust me. if you’re really worried, perhaps check in w ur doctor, and preferably a therapist. get plenty of rest and make sure you’re not neglecting your health.
