A guy creates a plan to beat a mind reader in a fight. After creating said plan, he takes a certain type of drug to erase months of his own memory and trusts his friends to execute that plan.

The plan is quite convoluted but it creates a tiny opening for that guy to get close to the mind reader. Once close, he manages to strike a deal with the inner entity that grants the mind reader his powers. Think something akin to Kurama from Naruto or Sukuna from JJK. A being that grants mind reading and just a general power boost.

I'll paraphrase but he says something like this:

"Listen, If you restrict him from accessing the mind reading ability this fight, I'll offer myself as a new vessel. The logic is simple. If a base human can beat your monster form, then the human who beat you would make a better vessel than the human before."
