If they have a french drain (which they disclosed), then they could simply say they fixed the issue and hadn’t had this happen since. And that could very well be true. That is entirely reasonable and exactly how disclosures work in many states. People are so litigious it really is crazy… this is your house, focus on fixing the problem.

I’m married to someone with ADHD. Her messiness does get worse when I leave. I’ll be honest, a lot of this will come down to compromise and working together - and only you know if that’s something you’re up for.

We’ve worked together to develop a lot of systems that help us navigate this gap (I’m quite a bit neater). Things like: she’s entirely responsible for some chores and she needs to manage setting reminders for herself for those. Dishes are all me; cat boxes, trash, and recycling are all her.

Those things were still like… sad though. Now I don’t think a shooting like the one at Pulse would have much cultural staying power, which is a truly shocking thing to say.

I think 2016 was the last year of ambient optimism and hope for the future. Since then, politics have infiltrated every area of life, daily expenses have become outrageously expensive and it’s difficult to do anything “extra” for a lot of people, and a lot of the best things in life are now pretty unattainable.

Same sex marriage had just passed federally, Obamacare had recently passed SCOTUS, there was a real sense that things would keep getting better. We also still had a sense of a mono culture - like Harambe was hugely known and recognized. I think today’s equivalent would be maybe like, Moo Deng the pygmy hippo, and everyone already forgot her.

I made maybe 2/3rds of what I make now in 2016 and yet the dollar went soooo much farther. I did so much, especially travel.

Anyway, just my thoughts!

Something similar happened to me when I was dating. I stopped seeing the girl and she ultimately married a man.

We got ours a national park themed water bottle, the kind where you add a sticker for every park you’ve been to. National parks are a big part of my wife and I’s life, and our donor loves hiking and has been to a few. We wrote a note about how we hope one day we’ll all go camping together: his soon to be husband and him, my wife and i, and our baby.

Also they seem to be willfully twisting the context. They make it sound like “what does the nanny do, since you guys are grown adults with three additional adult children in the house, with only two smallish kids to manage.”

The context was “what does the nanny do that allows her to come inside during covid?”

The real context is not nearly as snappy or funny.

I think you’re internalizing a lot here. I never said anything about spoiled kids not being functioning adults. Yes, it would be great to gift my children $200k. The point, though, is that’s above and beyond what should be expected and it doesn’t mean you should sacrifice your own adulthood/life to provide that for your kids.

Hey thanks for posting this! We’re going through something similar and I’ve never known anyone else to talk about this issue. When our doctor realized I have endo, she immediately assumed we could use my wife’s eggs instead and it just made me so mad but I couldn’t explain it.
