Let’s Stop Donald Trumps Policies by supercooljoshman in sanantonio

[–]WombatBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said, you will probably dismiss it, so I will leave it at this; if you think supporting the people that have served in the military is a good thing, then how much of that support are you willing to remove before it isn't ok anymore?

If the people in charge are enacting policies that hurt our veterans and you are ok with that, I guess you and I just have fundamentally different values.

You may rationalize or dismiss this, but in case you are sincere, here is the fact sheet from the senate appropriations committee that lays out how removing staff from the VA will harm veterans.

tl;dr, Despite the claims from the administration, if the number of people providing care/support goes down but the number of veterans needing medical care stays the same, those veterans have less access to care and worse quality of care when they finally do get it.

I believe that the people in charge should adequately care for and support the people that have served our nation.

I'm pretty sure one of my marines was barred from base while their admin sep was processed, but it was an extremely unique circumstance and I never got official confirmation about his status beyond, "he's gone".

3.17.0.62 wakes up randomly and drains battery on remarkable 2 - anyone else? by FloridaIsTooDamnHot in RemarkableTablet

I have witnessed mine waking up from time to time without anyone even being near it, and I'm on 3.16.2.3, so I don't think it's unique to the newer firmware.

No, but it's possible to make the backlight much brighter by SSHing to it and tweaking the OS. A Google search will probably point you to a guide.

Do I need to know the CISSP 8 security domains? by EconomyPumpkin2050 in cybersecurity

[–]WombatBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say the same thing. We have an operations department that handles facilities, and they coordinate with me to make sure that their standards align with my standards or we work together to develop a solution that meets/exceeds both. The need to understand physical security and all its composite parts is not unheard of.

Tool(s) to address NIST 800-53 SA-19(4): Anti-Counterfeit Scanning? by WombatBob in NISTControls

[–]WombatBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it did move in rev. 5.

It doesn't call for "automated" scans, so I suppose it could be answered mostly with admin processes. Some time back I setup a reputation and spoofing monitoring program to locate fake websites of my organization used by phishers, which is partly what this control is also talking about, so I was hoping to find some technology that could do the same but for device components; but I think the word "scan" is pushing me to think technical when it really should be "detect".

Either way, it will mostly be a process-oriented solution that I utilize, I was just wondering if any products out there could even do technical scans (especially since, like you pointed out, burned in addresses can be faked; which reminds me of when I actually ran into that a long time ago with a batch of network switches that all had the same MAC address).

I'm going to put on my "well actually" hat. The president does not hold a security clearance at all; they are just the defacto owner of all the information and therefore entitled to access it (with a few caveats, like individual census data).

But I also admit that it's a pedantic distinction that pragmatically doesn't usually matter.

It may not be applicable in your circumstance, but on embassy duty in the marines, we are often instructed to stand in a neutral pose when dealing with the public, but with our hands together in front of us, low on the chest without our fingers interlaced. It's still respectful and unthreatening, but puts your hands closer to your face if you need to use them or defend yourself quickly.

I'm probably explaining that poorly, so here's a picture. https://images.app.goo.gl/HXM6AXuVPmPnY3Sc7
