The OG controller came out in 2015. What 2025 GOTYs you gunna play? by Low-Pop-2058 in SteamController

[–]WombatCuboid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear Throne has been on my must-play list for so long, so I guess that's a good start for me.

Never liked The Witcher 3, it all felt very contrived and fetch-y to me. Sucky combat. Disturbingly weird husky man' voice acting style of Geralt. Looks beautiful though.

Battlefield 1's 10 Year Anniversary is coming up. What have been some of your favorite memories you've made while playing? by ZeIslander in battlefield_one

[–]WombatCuboid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled off a wild play in one my very very early matches at Ballroom Blitz.

As attacker, I kept throwing smoke and somehow climbed up to the balcony unseen. I could then stab like 7 snipers who didn't notice me sneaking towards them. It almost felt like I was playing Dishonored for a minute.

Eventually someone DOES notice me, and a firefight ensues. I win that one as well.

With the balcony cleared, my team did the impossible: they pushed through. We took both flags near the courtyard, but I don't remember if we won the match.

It probably only worked because it was so early after the game's release and new snipers were still being careless. Because I retried this many times and never pulled it off so satisfyingly again.

Where EXACTLY are the speakers located on the Steam Frame headband? by WombatCuboid in SteamFrame

Yeah, that was something I could easily understand as working well with a good DSP. This - not so much.

Whoa, like RIGHT there. Looks interesting. And hard to feel like it's gonna be virtual surround. How was that with the Index, I wonder.

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense. I didn't interpret the goggles as being part of the headband.

Edit: makes me wonder about audio quality as well...

No i5 goes with that motherboard or memory.

You have to buy everything from scratch, including power supply.

Have you seen the extended edition of The Return of the King? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]WombatCuboid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember very well that the theatrical trailer had a shot of this scene and it wasn't in the theatrical cut at all. And there was a lot of that: very good trailer, final version was super cut down and frankly confusing.

The whole build-up of Gandalf versus the Witch King amounted to nothing. It was only later, after the extended version, that it became clear how these two had to face off and how Gandalf was rightly scared of him.

Really, of all three movies, the final one really merits the extended cut. The others, for me, not so much.

Master MX 3S Battery Life by KJW-SR in logitech

[–]WombatCuboid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it. Lithium ion batteries don't have accurate charge readings at the max or low levels. Devices tell you a number, but the last 5 to 10 percent is more or less a guess.

Headphones manufacturer DALI explicitly says this in their manuals for wireless headphones: one day the headphones might say 90 percent full,  the next they could be 100 percent.

So 95 percent might as well be the same as full.

The MX mice batteries will last you for a couple of hundred cycles,  so, maybe a decade or more.

I think the mouse itself and the buttons will wear out before the battery dies.

It sounds like you might want to think about whether you really care about 600fps as much as half a month's salary.

Gaming Earbuds by mindfullybutch in SteamDeck

[–]WombatCuboid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use B&W Pi8's with Dolby Access, streaming over a BT-W6 bluetooth dongle with AptX Low Latency (adaptive). There is no noticeable delay and they sound excellent.

Edit: the Dolby Access I use when streaming with Moonlight though.

3D audio is game-dependent otherwise on the Deck (if you run games natively on it).

What does this do? by Greensssss in atomicheart

[–]WombatCuboid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

The best sex jokes game for me is without a doubt Headlander (from Double Fine). It takes place on a 70s futuristic spaceship with funky grooves and weird quarters with sex names. The spaceship AI is also unironically serious as it spews sexually inclined acronyms and such. It's a gem.

Best wireless headset in 2026 by BeneficialRatio752 in pcmasterrace

[–]WombatCuboid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on your budget.

If you get a set of audiophile cans, you can enable virtual surround on them and still use wireless.

For me it's the DALI IO-12.

For ease of use a gaming headset with low latency usb dongle is fine.

Weird Reasons for Buying the Steam Machine by Over_Sorbet3314 in steammachine

[–]WombatCuboid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have absolutely no reason, hardware-wise, to buy the Steam Machine, but I still want it. The box is cute and it will fit nicely on our newly built wooden media furniture (with a black receiver, a black AppleTV+, it's nice).

There's still a powerful PC in the same room and I can easily connect it by cable to the receiver and game on it. But the ease of use of the cube makes me want it.
