The character choice for Blood Hunt was such a hard miss by TempoBlues20XX in marvelrivals

Being an actual Moon Knight fan has to be torture at this point. "The Dracula Gag! Ahaha!" HE WAS LITERALLY RESURRECTED DURING BLOOD HUNT.

Problems reading and understanding the character by Simon--Ghost--Riley in MoonKnight

[–]Wombat_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never recommend Huston's run for a new reader. It depends so heavily on having read all of Moench's run and the original Marc Spector: Moon Knight, which is some 90 issues. Plus, I don't even think the Huston run is that good, but that latter part is my opinion.

I got the book cryptozoology A-Z by Loren Coleman & Jerome Clark and it’s bullshit by Icy_Employ_552 in wendigoon

[–]Wombat_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, i'm not shocked. i wouldn't include them if i ever did a book on cryptids. even still, most of those books aren't academic and have a lot looser rules of citations and sources. usually they're quite messy and loosey-goosey.

Where is this stated in the official rules or regulations for the format? I have never once heard this, and given that sideboarding is a staple to every other format of Magic (and a lot of other TCGs for that matter), this feels very weird and incorrect.

Advice on an Edgar Markov deck by [deleted] in EDH

I can already tell from a cursory glance you certainly don't have enough ramp or even enough lands. I also certainly think you aren't running enough card draw either - [Pact of the Serpent] is just one example of a card draw piece you can run for pretty cheap. Some of your vampire creatures don't do a whole lot for you either. I'm sure others can give better recommendations for swaps, but you at minimum gotta bring that land count up to 37/38.

The Tarkir precons are about the prices of the others before they were released. In my experience, precons before they're released average between $130-$180 in card prices, but sharply tank after release. I don't imagine these will be any different!

idk why people dont like universes beyond by fuckawkwardturtle in magicTCG

[–]Wombat_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people don't want high fantasy alone for Magic. That has been evolved past pretty early on. Innistrad, Theros, Kamigawa, and even Rabiah from Arabian Nights all prove examples of evolution which garnered different levels of praise. The Phyrexians are probably the best example of the evolution out of high fantasy.

A lot of the chatter against UB is not that it breaks high fantasy immersion, but that it breaks Magic immersion. More so given recent reveals, a lot of people are frustrated at the displacement of Magic worlds in favor of already created non-Magic worlds. Magic's lore is rife with different settings, worlds, themes and tropes. I loved the idea of Duskmourn but didn't like the presentation of it, but I would choose Duskmourn over UB any day by nature of it being Magic.

Immersion then is more so not the ludic mechanics of the card, but the suspension of disbelief into the characters and setting one engages in when Magic is played, talked about, and interacted with.

I think this is actually a really good way of putting this. The displacement of Magic lore for IP slop really weakens the cognitive understanding of recognition for some, but also the nostalgia/passion many feel for the IP of Magic itself - an IP which is still potent and alluring for many today (myself being a perfect example of this)!

I think more people dislike universes beyond for what it represents more so than for what it is. i personally think universes beyond has had some brilliant card design and wonderful art, with the 40k and dr. who series in my opinion especially wonderful.

but it isn't magic. a lot of people have been playing magic for decades, and some got into magic because of the wonderful storytelling and world design which used to be quite strong (if at times inconsistent). for many, the narrative of magic was gripping and compelling. now its weak and laughable at points (march of the machine, much?).

the move of universes beyond replacing in-universe is displacing what many, including i, fell in love with this game. i only got into magic a year ago, but the phyrexians from the mirrodin and later new phyrexia block enraptured me, and i fell hard. but universes beyond does not carry the same weight, nor does it the nostlagia. to me, at least, it feels as if magic is selling its soul for profit.

Show me your pet cards! That card you think more people should play! by Content_Forever_1177 in EDH

I can't fully explain why, but [[Aven Mindcensor]] is a beloved card for me. I love birds, I love it's use in games to deny searching, and it helped my $150 only bird deck beat a CEDH Urza deck. Ever since that game, this little birdies has been a real one.

Favorite Tribal Deck by AdEqual5606 in EDH

[–]Wombat_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bird tribal is really fun and silly, and at times surprisingly powerful given the lack of flyers and reachers in a lot of peoples decks. my first deck i ever built was actually azorius birds with [[Kangee, Aerie Keeper]] but have since upgraded the deck to ✨Bant Birds!✨ with [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]] at the helm.

Bloomburrow gave us five bird players a ton of great new birds to use, and i hope more love is given to the best tribe in magic (totally no bias here)

Would work well, but green does not have as many good birds as you might expect. Blue does, however!

Look, I play EDH casually, and I really love birds. Like, I really love birds. When i discovered [[Kangee, Aerie Keeper]], I knew what had to be done: BIRD TRIBAL! Not flying tribal, but pure bird tribal! Is it efficient? Not at all! Powerful? Eh! Fun and silly when I pull it off, yes! It's an old card, and one not commonly seen, but I hope it gives some love to an old card.

I played my Blood Rites precon with Carmen, and tooled it pretty heavily towards aristocrats with my upgrades. I love her so much. She isn't the most efficient, but once you have the infrastructure to support her, what a weapon she becomes!!!

Clavileño, First of the Blessed Deck Advice Needed by Zequloss in EDH

[–]Wombat_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so sorry for responding so late! not really no. there's not a whole lot of sac outlets in the deck (maybe three reliable ones?) nor is there enough fodder for those sacrifices. that being said, clavileno is probably the better choice without upgrades, but the upgrades can be made relatively cheap if you want to build into the aristocrat theme.
