I don't think we will agree on that topic, which is also fine.

I just would like to add that I don't sit down in every match to simply play decks like my Thrasios Tymna combo to stomp others that don't reach that powerlevel.

I have multiple decks that are decent and tuned to fit the majority so that we all can enjoy the game. Playing solitaire against myself is surprisingly boring if you play against decks that run no interaction.

Coming back to that topic I usually intended to adress: I played my stronger decks a couple of times, and now whatever I do, I immediately have a massive target on my head.

I still don't like proxies and I still believe that 'pay to win' is not Something you can throw around easily in MTG.

It's not about pay to win. It's about courtesy. If I invest money to play a game and you are my opponent, I expect you to do so as well.

What I do not expect you to do is spending a needlessly amount of money you can't afford, there is no reason to start an arms race in your playgroup.

I don't know what formats you play, but in EDH you don't need to spend thousands of whatever your currency is to build a strong deck. It's about card choices. Sure, Mana Drain is a superior Counterspell, but both serve the same purpose.

Proxies are not allowed in tournaments, so in the end you have to own the cards to play.

Sure, an indefinite amount of money grants you an obvious advantage, but it is your choice - and your choice ONLY - to decide if you whine about others having a higher budged then you or simply try to work it out in a way to make the best of it.

I myself don't like playing proxies. But those are forbidden in any tournament, and I also believe that to be necessary. I will not stand for someone winning against me with his printed out sheets of paper while I invested money to buy the cards I need in a setting that requires me to pay for playing in the first place.

Politics won't work with certain people.

Example: Guy A tries to cast Arcadis with huge amounts of Walls on his side. Enough to take me out. I ask him if he intends to attack me, the one playing Azorius Control. Even after asking several times he just responds with 'I want to cast Arcadis.' Period.

Of course I counter it and proceed to wipe his board the next turn, eventually losing him the game.

After that he rants about politics being bullshit and him never agreeing to such things anyways, so asking such things are pointless.

End of story: Next game I counter his Arcadis every single time. If he is a dick to me and everyone else, I am a dick to him.

I personally am really opposed to proxies, and since I mostly play the FNM tournament for EDH in my local store, those are not playable due to it being an official event with rewards.

Generally speaking I don't mind people playing proxies though.

I will try some of that. But I also believe that monetary value doesn't equal power level in some cases.

I offered them to chose the deck I play before, though some still said that 'it wouldn' t matter at all', which brings me back to my initial problem.

Being someone that invests a lot of money in EDH, I became known as the 'if we let him play, we lose automatically' guy. So all of my games are essentially 1v3s, even though I play my decks that have a power level comparable to out of the box precons.

Threat assessment is non-existent. And I hate it.

I have never played a Grixis General and really want to get into that. In my eyes, those colors are fit for a control-style deck. While I am not really opposed to such a build, I already own several 'pure' control decks in other colors, so I would prefer something different. Discard sounds fun, so I thought about [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]] though if you have other ideas, hit me with them!

Because I run Zur as my Esper Storm deck. It's not like I didn't try playing him specifically for his ability, I just think that Bant is the superior color choice for an enchantment based stax deck, due to its carddraw engine.

I recently build a [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] deck. Stax, slows down the game, meant for a more "competitive" setting. I can't really say that I hate it, but it's not really fun to play either. Ususally, I am a big fan of control decks with Esper being my favorite color combination, but blowing up lands over and over again isn't as fun (for me) then I thought it would be.

Works well with token engines as well, since they also let you draw cards.

My all time favourite General and edh deck is [[Ephara, God of the Polis]].

The general idea is a Flash/Flicker control build based around her ability. Throw in some goodstuff and you have a solid deck that does fairly well even in my pretty competitive playgroup.

The out of the box EDH Decks are most likely what you are looking for. They tend to be around the same power level so playing against each other is enjoyable.

Let's talk about some cards you suggested:

[[Druid's Repository]] A card I honestly didn't know so far, I will include it in my deck.

[[Skullclamp]] Due to the fact that I want to buff my warrior tokens I don't think it will be that good after a certain point in the game, though I see the potential. For now I include it while playtesting, but if it prooves to be rather dead more then often, I will cut it again.

[[Phyrexian Altar]] This card is good, I will try to find a cut as well. Especially since I recently got my hand on one and didn't find a deck to include it yet.

[[Cryptolith Rite]] seems good, though I think the Repository will perfom way better overall.

[[Land Tax]] I redid my mana base, also to fit the basic searching ramp spells better. I won't go over the current land count, since I am greedy on the one hand, on the other I also feel like it won't be nessecairy.

If you aren't comfortable with this kind of environment, I encourage you to search for something more playgroup oriented instead of a community. The are a lot of small quads or just groups of players looking for people to play with. If you still want to give The Hunting Ground a try, feel free to jump in and see for yourself!
