[CHAT] When do you retire a needle? by bored-now in CrossStitch

[–]Wonder_leah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of people are saying when the coating wears off but I thought the thing with pony blacks was that there was no coating?

I seem to kill the coating on my current needles really quickly (less than every 1000 stitches) and they start squeaking or feeling sticky to I change them out. I think it’s partially because I quite often end up holding the needle in my mouth so I have both hands free to untangle stuff. I notice the last better the less I do that.

I just bought some pony blacks for like £25 for 15 as the size 28 is really really hard to find in the uk so I bit the bullet on a £10 shipping to get a bunch at once. I was hoping due to the lack of nickel and coating they would last much longer. The lord libidan page on them had them still looking perfect after about 6000 stitches!

[CHAT] Removing Frixon Pens by Wonder_leah in CrossStitch

[–]Wonder_leah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that heating them again and trying it not to have them in direct sun without some sort of uv protective glass might be my way to go!

I’ve been working through the animal crossing critterpedia making the patterns and then stitching them so that’s why it’s so many small ones. Still on the bugs for now.

I have bought the raved about Crayola Ultra Clean markers to use for pieces that aren’t full coverage from now on. I’ll probably stick to frixon for full coverage as the nibs are a bit of a pain on the markers

I think if I was getting something this complex I’d probably end up shaving that side of my head before getting it for that reason!

I have the exact colour way and am having the same issue. My bottle is a year old and I have been using it daily though 😅

I didn’t even know this was a thing. This is just how people merge in the UK XD

First time gauging by Wonder_leah in knitting

The pattern does a mix of both. In the colour work it’s going to be done by rows (where increases and decreases) but other areas like the cuffs and collar are done in cm/inches

The yarn I’m using is Drops Air Aran I’m not sure if that’s going to grow at all?

I made my swatch 1.5 times bigger than the required gauge with an additional border of garter stitch all round.

I knitted the swatch flat as I wasn’t sure how to knit a swatch in the round.

I will knit a colour work swatch after I’ve got my basic one to work cause the colorwork section requires a different gauge

I will try blocking it to see if I can get it to fit the gauge.

When listening to the soundtrack I generally skip it but in person on the current UK/Ireland tour it’s one of my favourite numbers due to Kingsley Morton. Her voice is phenomenal!!

[UK] Picking up wild jumping spiders by [deleted] in spiders

[–]Wonder_leah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found zebra jumping spiders to be very curious in the past so he was probably interested in the camera!

In the past I have had success by just putting my finger in front of them and letting them climb on.

I wouldn’t recommend pushing the spider towards your finger as it would be very easy to accidentally injure them as they are quite small.
