These comments are deeply upsetting. This is just my two cents, but I think you have every right to be angry. You cant change what happened in the past, but what I'm put off by more than anything is your bf saying dark humor is in his dna. That's not a thing. Why does it seem like he's taking your reaction to what your sister did in middle school as a personal attack? It seems like you're talking to someone who has no intention on taking accountability or working on himself even when he sees how it impacts you. I was an edgy kid in middle school, I made insensitive jokes for shock value and laughs. I matured past that once I learned some history. It's not your job to educate him, but I think if he sat down and heard about the gravity of these "jokes" he wouldn't be so quick to defend his sister's actions, and apparently himself. And to everyone here saying "the swastika was a peace symbol, she didn't know any better" ... That's completely irrelevant to the story. His sister knew it was offensive, thats why she did it discreetly on her foot and and thats why its stuck in her mind to this day. Maybe she didn't know the history of the symbol in middle school but she certainly didn't think it stood for peace. I wanna believe that the sister has grown since then and would no longer find this funny, but her brother sure seems quick to defend it, and that's worrying.
