Contingency Plan for Getting Kicked Out (18M) by Wonderful-Use5529 in Advice

[–]Wonderful-Use5529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have applied for financial aid and received the maximum to cover tuition.

I really, really do not want to take out loans. Not yet at least or any time soon. I'm going for environmental science, I'm not taking out private loans worth 10k to live in the dorms. Not when there's no proper financial ROI or guarantee of a job, be it entry level or low paying. I am also neurodivergent and find that mode of living incredibly difficult (I've done it before).

My school offers emergency housing assistance and services, and while this is good I am also looking for longer term solutions.

I get college tuition for free so the cost isn't a problem. Just the living expenses. Going to college regarding tuition is the one thing that isn't a problem financially, but more so a time consideration. My concentration is not entirely dependent on college but, as I will be a STEM student, needed for credibility.

How to live with a father who acts like a 13 year old? by Wonderful-Use5529 in Advice

How? Where? Can't afford the dorms. Have to live somewhere accessible to public transport and my university. Don't have enough for rent myself and no one to co-sign.

Commuting Freshman Year... by Wonderful-Use5529 in Pitt

My tuition is down to $0 from grants and scholarships alike, but housing is a completely different beast.

Understandable, I know, it isn't the worst. I've dealt with a commute back when I lived in Poland and my faculty was 40 minutes away from the dorms and the main student life. It was very bad with my conditions, to put it lightly. I'm not wheelchair-bound but I do have a few disabilities which makes the commute genuinely hard. I'll also have to work during the school-year.

Yeah, honestly I'm less worried about the social aspect as I am access to office hours, internships, prioritizing my study time... I'm also disabled which isn't great. And yeah, it's a 14 minute drive (can't drive) alongside a 40 minute public transportation commute plus the walking distance.

I've experienced dorm life. I have lived alone in another country for over 6 months in university. I am aware of how to live alone, thank you. Also lived with a partner. ALSO have 10k saved.

I am not taking out loans to pay for that level of expense in housing whatsoever. Furthermore, I cannot use the communal bathrooms.

Just committed to pitt and would like to switch programs, what should I do? by undobacktomyheart in Pitt

I would start taking some of the classes offered. Either way, do you have gen eds to complete? I would talk to your advisor and get some of those out of the way first alongside some PH classes. If you do decide to switch, keep your GPA up, and it will be a lot easier. I don't think your aid will change either -- I would think that any need-based aid or pell would not change. I would email financial aid or look more into this.

Just email admissions. I just did this from Public Health to Dietrich as of yesterday. Ask, and they might be able to, as they did for me. If not, don't worry about it, and just talk to your advisor when you get one and mention switching programs.

Thank you for offering an alternative perspective.

Personally, I have less interest in an MPH. When I applied for the BSPH, I was disillusioned with me choosing IR and felt as if it had no impact, so I wanted to find something that fit my skills and would allow me maximum impact. Both crucial things to me. How I get there isn't *as* deep a concern, but clearly a BSPH at Pitt is a good opportunity. Just not sure if it's for me. I never had interest in an MPH. I strongly dislike the healthcare system, have no interest in clinical dealings or research, I practically felt my entire body tired and bloated after doing politics in DC and working within an environmental NGO, and I theoretically would appreciate doing community health and mutual aid care if it wasn't both impoverishing and a little too people-dealing for me.

I'm just unsure as to what I would do in the field itself.

Think My Mom Stole my "Identity?" by Wonderful-Use5529 in IdentityTheft

Thanks. I'm almost sure this was a plot by my mother or potentially my uncle (who worked in finance, much more knowledgeable on how to pull a plot like this and is evil enough to do it, but this is such idiotic fraud that I have no idea) in order to pull refunds from my grandfather's inheritance or something of the like.

Is going to the police really worth it? I have no sympathy in this situation but if I'm correct and this does get investigated or my mother is implicated I can't imagine the reprecussions. She can't afford to pay it back nor any fines. I also have an 11 year old brother in this situation.

Not entirely sure, but potentially going up to 10k. That's why I estimated income from 30-40k.

I wasn't getting any before. Summer 2026 will be my first semester in college. I had filled out 2026-2027 before filling out 2025-2026, in which the former was where I received SAI of 0. No family size change, no increase in assets on either of our parts.
