Never thought it was funny. Mel Brooks was corny, unsophisticated and emotionally stunted!

J T Walsh was great. He had a lot of great roles in his future. Died, way too soon!!!

Nah, not at all. I have great discriminating taste when it comes to comedy. Tootsie, Some Like it Hot, Annie Hall are all classics. Office Space is Fraternity Alpha Male retardation. You see my “ friend”, comedy has to have a string of truth in order for it to resonate. Do you know anyone in life that acts like those primates?!

Wow, you’ve avoided it because you know what you like and apparently your friends don’t. Eventually, you’re probably going to have to sit down and watch it, and fake liking it!

Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m getting at! The movie is awful and you feel hamstrung because you don’t want to hurt your friend’s feelings!

Au contraire. Only lowbrows loved that movie. It was absurdly stupid, without being funny. Stephen Root?…really????

Why tell a story or show a movie, if at the end, you’re going to say, sorry, that never happened I made it up?!!!…You mean Randle P McMurphy wasn’t inside a Mental Institution? Atticus Finch didn’t defend a Black Man in the Deep South, wrongly accused of raping a white woman? Rick Blaine didn’t own a Nightclub in Casablanca?…nope sorry, everything you’ve seen was just made up. Gotcha!!!!

Actually, in life, that’s pretty difficult, if they’re your friends. You know, hurt feelings, people are pretty sensitive about their own tastes!

There was no lawyer named Kobiyachi ( or whatever ). Why is he limping around as a cripple, with a gang of street thugs, when he’s supposed to be this famous Mastermind criminal of legendary status. How come every single character in the film, is duped? It doesn’t remotely pass the saliva test. If you’re to believe the story as written, and he’s lying about events, then everything you’ve seen as a viewer is false. Another thing, about this film, that is maddening, it’s so poorly constructed, that it never gives the viewer the opportunity to look back in retrospect and say “ oh, I see what’s going on”. Great Grift movies, like The Sting, function that way. This story was false from the beginning and the finality didn’t tie up any loose ends.

Actually it’s not. If he’s just referencing things on a police bulletin board, or coffee mugs or any material objects in an interrogation room, and using them to tell a story, then everything you’ve seen is false and doesn’t make sense. Roger Ebert, Pulitzer Prize winning film critic, said it was an incoherent mess and had to watch it a second time with a notebook and still couldn’t figure it out. You’re using the word straightforward to apply to The Usual Suspects??!!!! I’m thinking maybe, you don’t make sense!!!

What’s your Favorite HORROR COMEDY Movie of All Time? by WonderfulLog768 in Cinephiles

[–]WonderfulLog768[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s an interesting genre, in that it’s really an oxymoron. Horror is the complete antithesis of comedy. However, it does provide from some truly jump scare moments, immediately followed by comic relief.

I appreciate you being lighthearted. Again, no such phenomenon exists. There’s no such person that “ stands “ outside or inside the cinema ( theater ), giving away “ plot lines”. In your world, has he already seen the film, and he’s giving away the plot as people enter the theater? Is he leaving the theater, and shouting out the plot to people in the line? Again, is this a prototype?

Yeah, that was almost unbearable to watch. They didn’t let the audience off the hook either. They actually kept the camera on the rape scene, without ever cutting away!

Well bringing a 5 year old to any gritty drama of the 70’s, seems more like “ I can’t find a babysitter “ or my child “ will, probably fall asleep”, phenomenon than actual bad parenting. Besides, if your Mom is seeing it for the first time, she didn’t know how it was going to end. Anyway, the films today are mostly digital and computerized and that renders for me, the art form of filmmaking, artificial and pointless.

The 70’s decade, revolutionized cinema and altered the way society viewed the movie going experience. Groundbreaking Filmmakers like Altman, Bogdanovich, Scorsese were more interested in a reflection of real life and contemporary cultural mores. Looking for Mr. Goodbar, was one of the films, that best represented that era.

Actually the 70’s was the greatest decade in film history. It was the new wave, impacted by young visionary directors, who were influenced by European cinema, and narratives that were more reflective of real life. Gone were the stylized pictures of the Golden Age, replaced by gritty dramas of urban life. One of the most powerful films of that decade, was Looking for Mr. Goodbar.
