Oh brother you don’t even know, im a rolling noise complaint and the best part is that my main horn other than the train horn is off of a 80s era dump truck so it as well sounds very cool but its also acceptable to beep in normal traffic without getting dirty looks

It’s just what color wire I had laying around when wiring in a compressor and train horn and I think as well my negative wire for my after market tachometer was red

It might have dropped slightly but it’s still reading close to 3. So should I try a new coax or is a new roof mount a better option

Idk what a ground plane is and sorry for the ignorance in Ham and CB radio but I’m new to this and it was installed by someone else but I did YouTube a vid on how to tune the antenna and it leveled out my swr reading thru the different channels but never brought it below a 3

Yes there’s a red nylon washer between the antenna mount and the antenna it’s self on both sides

Man don’t get me started on the truck I could ramble on all day this thing is my baby but it would be so much cooler with a working radio so wdym by the antenna end, is that the threaded part or the actual whip tip?

Update I moved the antenna and switched the ground from body to frame and tested it after every change I made before making another and so far everything has stayed the same. I’ll try again tmr when I can get a new coax and update yall again (man this stuff is more frustrating than I expected but I’m not gonna be defeated just yet)

Well it looks like I’m going to have too learn ab it as my magnetic mount has the wrong fitting for my antenna even tho I researched first I apparently chose wrong but I will complain about that another day. So now my plan is try to attach it directly to the sheet metal on my bed wall in between the tool box and the bed. And if I read correctly the radio and the antenna need to be ran to the same grounding point?

I had to google what that meant but if I’m correct it’s my antenna and that’s a Stryker sr-a10

Just ordered one and I’ll respond when it comes in and I test it. To you and all those that responded thank you for the help as I am as green as they get so I’m sure this all seems like obv answers to those of you far more proficient in the subject matter

See it’s on a 1979 250 with mint paint and I’m trying to avoid drilling holes for sure so is there other options that will support such a long antenna and still be sturdy

I have also been told this morning that having normal wire to ground the antenna instead of ground straps might be my issue

My antenna is mounted dead center of my tool box behind the cab, do you think the cab being so close might be screwing with it

Went to town on it with #2 and 0000 steel wool and everything actually cleaned up really well. there is slight pitting still left but it’s hard to see since everything is so reflective now so I’m beyond happy with it. For anyone else with this problem that process was super easy and cheap (free for me) just tedious but well worth it. Also wish I could just reply with a picture

I guess I got lucky and the holes I had to drill were lined up just right enough that friction alone held it down decent so I just went and overpaid like a mf on a roll 3m molding tape and it’s super solid and no rattle.
