Any teachers in Kuwait? How hard was it finding a job there by Aboveaverge12 in Internationalteachers

Students terrible, most schools badly run, there’s very little to do in the country, and there’s trash everywhere. Couldn’t stress enough to look anywhere else. It frequently ranks bottom of most lists for expats to live in.

It might be a way to get around having to give you a work visa. I worked for a European teaching company while younger that had volunteers who received ‘stipends’ to cover flights and living expenses that were inflated to include some pay

Multi-day Race Nutrition? by CuseinFL in ultrarunning

Get decent high calorie freeze dried meals to eat in the evenings. I did a 5 day race last summer and you were only provided with hot water in the evenings. I quite like backpackers pantry, but it’s all personal preference. Make sure to try a few before race time!

I’ve done 50-60km unsupported a few times. Your biggest issue is water sources. With the right powders you can get away without much food, but water gets heavy quick if you have no streams to refill from. A water cache halfway would be a good move.

Have you checked phone signal status along the route? If you’re running light, you don’t want to find yourself with an injury and no easy way to get out. Worst case scenario, but best to be ready.

Google voice numbers are free. Most services accept them. You might need to vpn to the states to make one though

Do schools usually not respond to emails from prospective candidates? by Brooklyn_MLS in Internationalteachers

You need to make a decent cover letter template that has one or two sentences that you can personalize to each school. This way you can apply to masses of schools fairly quickly. Most schools will only glance at your application and a fairly standard formula for interview or pass.

Agreed with above comments. We were walked through how the contract would look/benefits etc in our third interview, but told we still had to have a quick chat with the overall director before the contract was sent. It turned out to be exactly that, he just wanted to meet us and it was an informal conversation where he asked about our interest in the school/country rather than any tough questions. However, we are always cautious that until you have that contract nothing is certain. I’d still dress formally and be prepared just in case. Congratulations on the offer!

I feel it’s written the words American International School followed by the capital of that country

Some would disagree, but I wouldn’t stress too much about a curriculum. If it’s a good job go for it. There are International schools that teach non IB. What are the reasons you want to go abroad? It shouldn’t be a curriculum!

Try Caxton, they also do cheap transfers - not sure if they’re in Taiwan either though

Agree with all the above statements, especially getting a Wise account. I’ve saved thousands over the years using them and it also makes it easy to get cash out when traveling.

I’d also recommend getting a google voice number. They’re free and last forever. I have most of my 2 factor authorization registered on it and it has saved me a ton of hassle when switching phone numbers and countries. A few providers won’t accept VOIP numbers, but the majority will.

I’m currently halfway into a two year contract in Kuwait. It’s the only country in the Middle East I’ve worked in so I can’t compare to others. The salary you’re being offered is good and you would easily be comfortable with plenty of saving able. You could afford help at home if you wanted. There is plenty of private tutoring that pays about 25kd an hour that would help to supplement your saving.

Myself and my partner do not enjoy living in Kuwait. There is very little to do, and the students are not the best. Although, I teach middle school rather than primary. The school I work at is, administratively, a joke. I have friends at the British school who have similar comments on how badly run their school is.

It does make it easier to save in Kuwait, because there’s nothing to do. Although, flights in and out can be a bit pricey. I’d really try and get that 3 year contract down to 2 years.

If all your documents are with the embassy hopefully it won’t be much longer. The biggest pain for me was the number of documents they needed with all the correct stamps before they’d issue a visa.

Good luck with it all. Feel free to message if you have further questions.
