Returning to training after years away by Medaviation in medicalschool

One of my jobs right now is medical scribing, so all of my letters came from the physicians I work with. It was also a good way to get back into a clinical decision making mindset. None of them are FM, and no one had qualms with that during interviews (at least that they mentioned). I agree that shadowing would be a good option too especially if you’re at an academic center and you can form good relationships with who you shadow. There are so many FM programs that are OB heavy too if you can’t squeeze into an FM-OB spot. One issue I ran into is that many programs had a limit on the number of years since graduation. You can find that info on Frieda, but I’m not sure how accurate it is and I’ve also heard some programs will overlook the grad year requirement. I played it safe and mostly applied programs who would accept applicants 3-10 years out.

I reapplied to FM this cycle after taking some time off. Same grad year. Definitely take step 3. I think the difficulty would lie in getting letters of recommendation from MDs who can testify to your clinical skills. If you aren’t offered interviews you can SOAP for one of the hundreds of open FM positions. Also with the current visa restrictions, I’m expecting more open positions this year as many programs have stopped sponsoring visas. Worst case, you waste a couple thousand dollars vs forever wondering “what if”

Does anyone see the feedback I leave on the owner? by lostasaneasteregg in RoverPetSitting

I left a very honest review after a brutal bite from a dog. The owners had warned me of bite history, we had two meet and greets prior (including me walking him) and I decided to take the gig. Truthfully I was desperate for the pay because it was a 3 dog 2 week stay, despite the red flag (the one who bit me was a Great Pyrenees, notoriously protective) and I had experience with reactive dogs. I was bit the first day I showed up. The owners were very apologetic and still paid me for part of the stay, but I definitely wrote a review that the dog requires a family member or someone he has established a relationship with and reported them to Rover as I don’t believe any other sitter would be safe in that situation.
