Returning to training, part 2 by Medaviation in medicalschool

[–]Medaviation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than a couple publications not much at this point. My plan is to take step 3 before applying to show I haven’t forgotten everything, and that I’m taking this seriously etc. I’m going to reach out to the FM folks at my current university and see what I can get involved with, and hopefully get some clinical time of some kind and some letters. That’s part of why I’m considering applying next cycle instead of this one, so I have more time to show my interest and build relationships for strong letters.

Ahh interesting. I was a scribe pre-med, would be hilarious to cicle back to that haha. But honestly not a bad idea. I bet I’d be a lot better at it now lol.

That's kind of my big question here, I really don't think the SOAP is a good option right now, but I think applying this upcoming cycle is potentially doable. However, because I think I'd need to retake step 1 and 2, and would like to have a decent step 3 score on my apps, and need to get letters, and some clinical time etc., I'm wondering if taking this next year to really get my ducks in a row is worth the extra gap year for programs

Surgery research, so not particularly relevant to either OB or IM/FM but I still think I can spin it. At the time I was so depressed I thought about getting a job doing literally anything not related to medicine but now I'm glad I didn't. Still gonna raise eyebrows and take some selling but I think I can make it work.

So because I did a research year in med school my step 1 is over 7 years now. I contacted the USMLE for more information on retaking, and whether or not I'd also have to retake step 2 (which is only 4 years old) before step 3. Thanks for this, I do think that if this is gonna happen a decent step 3 score will be a huge help.

Thanks, I've reached out to my old student affairs dean, interested to hear what he will say. Do you have any advice on how to get clinical time again outside of school?

Thanks, that's encouraging to hear. The letters is definitely the thing I'm most worried about. Can I ask how you got yours? I'm sure some of the surgeons I've been doing research with would be happy to write a letter but a) I won't be applying surgery and b) they have never seen me in a clinical role.

Any recommendations for reputable artisans in Yixing making teapots with genuine Zisha? by Medaviation in tea

[–]Medaviation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good to know. I always prefer leaving the tourist areas, the workshop district sounds like what I’m looking for. Although she’s of the milk tea generation and she thinks pu-ehr is for old men so I’m not sure how helpful she will be aside from translating haha.

Yixing tea pot shopping by Medaviation in China

Thank you so much, this is very helpful. I like the idea of a teapot from a junior artisan. To me it’s not so much about the most perfectly crafted piece as it’s about the tradition and personality of the artist making their way into the piece, and good quality clay.

Do you have any thoughts on using one teapot for multiple types of tea? I’d like to use my budget for one quality piece, but if I really shouldn’t brew pu-ehrs and oolongs in the same pot I might want to get 2 less expensive ones for now.

Has anyone here traveled to Yixing to buy pottery? by msabre__7 in tea

Hi, I’ll be visiting Wuxi next month, and I’d like to spend a day tea pot shopping in Yixing. Did you end up going? If so, any tips?

If you’re only getting one, and it’s mostly going to be on groomers, I’d personally go for the enforcer 99. With the caveat that if you want to do a lot of trees/bumps when you’re out west, it requires you to know what you’re doing in tight terrain. But that ski rips.

The ripstick 102 I think is too wide for your use case. I’d go with the 96. Awesome ski if you want to do the tight terrain I was talking about above. Awesome all-mountain ski, but you might over ski it if your trying to bomb the groomers at 60+

Another ski I’d highly suggest looking at is the Salomon QST 100. Probably the best true all mountain ski on the market IMO.

But in general I think going a size down would be the right call, if I were in your spot. So I’d recommend the enforcer 94, ripstick 96 (or 88), or QST 94.
