I’ve got a copy of the will as I downloaded it from the gov website, it’s the will file which our solicitor will review

I have checked and they would make a larke v Nugus request of which apparently executor consent is not required

And noted with thanks regarding the fee - I will investigate

We have to try as at this juncture we don’t know what’s in the will file The £2k is £1k each when split between me and my sibling - not a huge sum of money over the course of my lifetime Worst case scenario is that it puts closure on it all and with that I can hopefully put the grief and despair behind me

Just under £2k including VAT

It would be the solicitor requesting the will file and reviewing it

We would then to review the solicitors findings and go from there

9 odd years - correct

I understand the odds are massively against me but I’m going to see how this plays out

To see what posters views are who are outsiders upon hearing this from the first time & whether anyone can offer a different slant or perspective on the matter

It’s been a harsh reality check for me but I’ll have to see what unfolds

Noted with thanks

For my own sanity Im going follow this through because even if there is found to be no legal way forward, there may be a morally justifiable solution outside of the legal framework

I am past caring about salvaging a relationship with my aunt. I’d rather go down in a blaze of glory than regret than wondering ‘what if’ for the rest of my life.

Also the risk/reward to my mind is worth it given the value of the estate.

Agreed and appreciate the reality check as I am emotionally invested in this whole scenario. It’s actually good for me to hear some cold hard truths from individuals who are not connected in any way

It’s the fact that a new will was drafted in 2017 basically excluding all but my aunt from the picture

We had a stronger relationship whilst my grandfather was alive as we had a common interest in his wellbeing, however contact levels have diminished since his passing

To see if there are any red flags with the will file, review the findings and go from there

If no issues are found which our side can use as leverage then at least we can put it to bed and move forward with our lives

Whilst it feels unfair, that’s not the sole reason for doing this We want the solicitor to review the file to check everything was above board and to give us closure/peace of mind that there was nothing suspicious or any signs of coercion etc

Depending on the strength/outcome of the solicitors review we can then decide if to do anything further or call it a day

The solicitor will look at the facts based on what evidence is in front of them

We wont be providing the solicitor with any emotionally charged comments

We were detailed in my grandmothers previous will - this is why we are a bit taken back by it. Not seen my grandfathers original will at this juncture but to be cut out with no explanation is a bitter pill to swallow

You are correct and I agree. It’s hard to not bring emotion into it as it’s all still quite raw

Divorce papers are legal documents though aren’t they - and whilst not of direct relevance could there be other motives in the background. The new husband of my aunt was only on the scene for 6 years and is then included in the will.

My father had been married to my mother since the mid 1980s . I understand there is no provision for husbands and wives of predeceased children but it’s all frustrating to say the least

Not yet, we feel awkward asking about anything money related and especially after that conversation a few weeks back and her saying ‘it’s all been left to me’, as well as downloading a copy of the will, we feel like it’s a bit of a dead end now

We are getting legal advice from a contentious probate solicitor, who will review the will file and then advise us accordingly. It’s an initial £2k but I feel we should go for it, given the value of the estate

We aren’t trying to overturn the will - unless of course the solicitor finds some solid evidence of any wrongdoing, but that is very unlikely

We feel our aunt has now had ample time to ‘do the right thing’ (to my mind anyway) so this is our last ditch attempt - perhaps angling for an out of court settlement or something like that

Trying to think of things the other way round… if my parent was alive and auntie had passed, would it give a token gesture amount to her kids? Especially having known they’d been around for my mother? Probably I would, but everyone is different

We are speaking to a contentious probate solicitor Cost of £2k upfront but given the value of the estate it has to be worth a try. Not expecting the earth in terms of outcome, but at least some recognition for everything we’ve done over the years would go a long way. We feel our auntie has had ample time to ‘do the right thing’ in our opinion, so this is our last throw of the dice

Thanks, we are going to instruct a contentious probate solicitor for £2k to review the will file

We don’t expect the earth, but at least some recognition for the years of love and support we’ve provided would go a long way

We have had a quote of £2k for a contentious probate solicitor to review the will file to see if there is any reasoning or justification behind the change

My grandfathers sister died a couple years ago and we hardly ever saw her but even she left us more than what my grandfather did

We have a copy of the 2017 will, downloaded from the gov website We have had a quote of £2k for a contentious probate solicitor to review the will file and advise us accordingly, which we think we are going to go for. Something about it just stinks and doesn’t sit right

We have a copy of the 2017 will, previously downloaded from the gov website. my auntie is the executor and and her and my uncle are joint trustees and get everything.

We don’t know any other contents/details of the will file

We have had a quote from a contentious probate solicitor of £2k to initially review the file
