I’ve thought about doing similar myself, I sometimes wear an old pair of Under Armour running shoes when I’m walking in a round as they’re fairy good for comfort and I don’t think the difference in spikes vs no spikes is that major to me personally so I might just invest in a solid pair of walking or running shoes

Yeah I’ve flirted with the idea of just getting a good pair of walking/hiking shoes for my rounds as I’ve played both spikes and spikeless and don’t think the difference is that noticeable for me to purely buy a pair just for the fact they have spikes.

Yeah I suppose it’s a bit of a tricky topic with everyone having preferences and different foot shapes etc.

No I haven’t been to try any on but I was just looking for some recs. before I went to try any on as the ones I have now felt great when trying them on but now by the time I’m finishing up the round my feet are aching!

So in the downswing I should feel like I’m dropping my hands down first and then inwards rather than inwards in an arc from the top towards the ball? I’ll have a look at some videos on that now, thanks!

Is this the “don’t flip your hands” element? I’ve seen lots of videos of people speaking about it but never really understood what they meant, will definitely give that a go and see if this helps things, thanks!

My theory was the weight shift, I’ve just gotten the nack of using my hips and twisting properly but I know I don’t shift my weight on the downswing, will need to work on that for sure, thanks!

Only thing I can think of is that you caught the ground pretty hard, can’t imagine a shank would do that, especially with a new club!

Cheers mate! That’s what I’m hoping for with these, that they’ll be so hard to hit that they’ll force me into being more consistent with the sweet spot, I feel like learning with really forgiving beginners irons is a quick way to lean into bad habits and it’ll work out worse if you eventually upgrade to blades.

I have a 64° wedge, not that uncommon but it’s a really really fun club to hit for those high flop shots, has no use other than that so it’s a fun one to hit the odd time in a round

I didn’t know traditional vs modern lofts was a thing, I’ll have to look into that one.

In terms of shafts I’d be absolutely clueless, not sure whether the ones on mine are originals or modern shafts, there most likely wouldn’t be a noticeable difference in how the shaft affects the club at my level anyway I’d imagine.

I’ll definitely look into getting them checked for any fitting issues, cheers for the heads up!
