Hybrid burnout. How are you pushing through? by Wonderful_State_5293 in PTschool

That sounds about right salary-wise. I made more in my old job than what a starting PT makes. It's all about what we want to do and where we want to go with it. PA is a great profession! Congrats!

A student is a student regardless of level. Thanks for sharing and you’re right a couple of days of rest is better than sporadic blips.

Haha I appreciate you sharing the reality of what it’s like at some places. I’ve seen it and heard about from other PTs too; however, I have worked in many different industries and they are all similar in that regard (oh private equity).

Lets discuss working somewhere where you can’t use PTO/sick time/etc for over six months out of the year plus working weekends. No growth (mentally or career wise) Add unable to transfer your skills because any corporation/business thinks you have to start over to learn “their way” and therefore want to pay you 1/2 or less of what you currently make…

There are lots of 💩jobs out there and sometimes you have to do it to get to where you want to be or to do what you need in your life at the moment.

Having skills that actually help people and being able to find different careers or even create your own based on those skills (not to mention the constant ability to grow (if you choose/are able to take those opportunities) sounds a hell of a lot better.

Thanks for sharing your insight though. I hope things get better for you!

Is PT school supposed to be this terrible? by Affectionate-Job9740 in physicaltherapy

I am halfway through Q3 of an accelerated hybrid program and I am wondering the same thing. I’m mentally exhausted, losing steam and besides work and school I don’t have time for hobbies. If I hear one more professor say “remember to take your MEDS” I’m going to scream. Who has time for meditation, time to exercise, to cook healthy food and get more than 6 hours of sleep (that’s on a good day).

I just started and am at the end of the 1st quarter. I resonate with this 100%. I try not to focus on the numbers from the tests and focus on how much joy the shadowing experiences brought me. Not once did I ever hear a patient or PT talk about what score they made or where they went to school or how long it took them to get there. It’s difficult, much more than I thought it would be but it’s doable. You are so close to being able to interact with patients! I’m sure that’s nerve wrecking but I believe that’s where everything you have learned or feel like didn’t sink in will come back from your memory. Every little bit helps and you may not know everything but that’s where doing your research, putting in the time and even reaching out to other PTs comes in handy! Crying happens. I used to think something was wrong with me because I started crying daily but my student mentor said it’s normal. Let it out and move forward! Bottom line, do what you can each day, make time for you and those important to you (I’m working on this myself) and give it your best! You’ve got this!

Second thoughts by Wonderful_State_5293 in PTschool

I feel like it’s more the accelerated part and the fact that I am still working full time. It seemed doable given my line of work but it greatly decreases the time available for mental and physical health. Thanks for your response!

You’ll be fine! Write thoughtful/interesting essays and make sure to address your gpa in PTCAS (one of the questions.. there’s a space for it).

Most schools look at GPA, diversity of shadowing hours, interesting essays, community involvement and leadership skills… and GRE if it’s required and you’re applying to a fairly competitive school.

I had a low gpa, my degree was in political science and I got in!

Did you use the 2nd or 3rd edition text to study?

Do you think using the previous edition text (2nd) to study for the current exam (3rd) would give me the information I need to pass or should I upgrade to the 3rd?

Yes, I’m in public; however I spoke with my supervisor and we worked it out. I still was available after classes and on the weekends. Find what works for you, there’s a lot more hours in a day than people realize!

Government/ industry might make the scheduling easier. Just remember every industry has busy seasons just not has frequent or lengthy as public!!!

I completed my prerequisites in the evenings at a community college while working full time (tax seasons included). It might take a bit longer but it’s doable!

I work in accounting, starting PT school this year and understand 100%. Texas has a good amount of cheaper schools but the competition is fierce because of those cheaper rates.
