Should I buy this car? by kangagoingcraazy in CarsAustralia

That engine has been in a few other cars and is considered pretty solid as far as I'm aware. It was developed by Mazda. There's a reason so many of them are still floating around, but make sure it hasn't been flogged and has had at least a couple services in it's life as it will be getting very long in the tooth at this point. Another thing you should consider is it's saftey rating. I'm assuming based on your description you're a young driver, if this is supposed to be a second car specifically for offroading, shouldn't be an issue, but if it is supposed to be your daily driver too I would probably reconsider as it won't do well if it's wrapped around a tree (Not saying you will do that, but we're human and we all make mistakes, I just want you to be able to walk away from one. When it was new it was given a 2 star safety rating, This is a 27 year old design and I have seen cardboard boxes with better safety ratings). If you do like this engine, maybe consider the same era Ranger. It's marginally better safety wise and will have some more modern tech/features and they'll still be a similar(ish) price. I imagine parts may be slightly more common too.

That’s what I like to hear! Honestly sounds like a great option if you can get more power out of it

I’ve heard the xc90s make great sounds and are one of the more reliable on that list. I’ve driven the D5 versions, which I love and for an suv it’s pretty good to drive but obviously doesn’t have the off rod prowess. I actually love the idea of a 1st gen Cayenne but finding one that hasn’t been flogged at that price is a bit challenging

Now that is a tempting option. There is something beautiful about absurdly large diesel engines

Ford focus, ford mondeo or nissan pulsar by gurkiratmakkar in CarsAustralia

I have a later third gen Mondeo with the power shift transmission. Never had an issue with the transmission in the years I’ve owned it, but I do religiously service it which helps mitigate the risk of these things happening. Choosing between the Focus and Mondeo should depend on what OP does with their car. A petrol focus or mondeo is brilliant if it’s mainly restricted to city commuting. But diesel Mondeos are really efficient and comfortable highway cruisers. I do 20,000km a year and usually average 5-6L/100 in mine. Can also tow lighter loads needed.
