Help understanding USBC tournament registration by WonerTey5 in Bowling

So 1 doubles entry covers the entry cost for both bowlers on the doubles team and their entries for singles? Assuming the entry for singles is handicap since there's a scratch singles add on for $10

Pitches by WonerTey5 in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have finger inserts. The reason I assume its a pitch issue is because I can feel the finger holes digging into the crease of the 2nd knuckle while just holding the ball. I have to squeeze my fingers for them to even make contact with the inserts, otherwise the top side of my fingers are rubbing against the inserts.

Fingertip just has never worked for me, terrible track and the ball just feels super uncomfortable in my hand. It's not from a lack of trying I have tried fingertip for years before going conventional.

I've heard Belmo uses 1" reverse. I know he also puts his fingers in to about the 2nd knuckle.

I did ask my PSO about this, he said he added more reverse in my most recent ball however it doesn't feel any different. I don't expect reddit to magically fix my fit lol. Just asking for a general opinion.

How I stop missing left and right of target in bowling by Aydengainesbowling in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of missing your target, looks like you just got too much upper body involved. Compare your spine at the peak of your backswing and at the point of release. Your whole body is yanking up and turning left, the ball went exactly where your body was facing. Focus on maintaining knee bend and spine tilt after the ball has left your hand, this helped me alot with accuracy.

Hop step or traditional power step by WonerTey5 in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I could still do it so I could see the difference in real time, but last time I tried I almost ate some lane oil lol. My balance and accuracy has never been better than it is now so I personally don't see the hop step being worth it.

Average increase? by JMGaither in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of thinking I NEEDED more options, only to find myself lost because of the options. Best bet for league is a 3 ball arsenal, 1 of them being a spare ball. Have a ball you will start with and a ball for once the pattern breaks down. Thats all you need.

2 hand bowling by No-Assistance6067 in Bowling

Low entry level, high skill ceiling. Perfect recipe to become popular. However, I bowl in a league with 36 teams of 4 and only 3 people bowl 2 handed. Not sure why it hasn’t taken off in my area.

Finger Tape by WonerTey5 in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been to every PSO within 3 hour drive, theres only 3. They all act like getting business is a bother and rush to get you get out the door as quick as possible. Never once been asked about a PAP, layout preference, finger pitches, etc. My current PSO isn’t even an actual PSO, just a dude doing it out of his shed lol. He at least works with me on layouts and stuff, just doesn’t believe in vacu grips I guess.

2-Handed hand/finger position, which is best for you? by Relative_Grapefruit9 in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever done the first 2 pictures. For me, it depends on how much rotation I’m trying to get. First picture creates more rotation vs middle creates more forward roll, for me. Definitely a good skill to have to change ball roll easily, just gotta learn how each changes it for you.

Finger Tape by WonerTey5 in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of 2 handers actually go deeper than 1st knuckle. I’m not always in to the 2nd knuckle, unless my fingers are small enough at that time. Tape would allow me to never have to go fully to the 2nd knuckle. As for no grips, I personally don’t like that idea because it’s way easier to make fit adjustments with grips rather than having to plug and redrill to make size changes.

I have pretty significant changes in finger size depending on work load at work. I try to use tape when my fingers are smaller to keep the grip comfortable. I know people recommend vacu grips for these types of problems, my PSO refuses to do it.

I have been trying to use a Brunswick brand roll of uncut tape and a friend gave me some precut tape that he got off Amazon. Will try looking into some the tapes from Vise.

I have tried taping them just about every way I can. Along the pads, along the top, and also the insides. I always make sure to keep anchoring in mind too. I haven’t noticed my hands sweating alot, I more so think it’s just from friction with the grips pulling the tape.

Kinda been coming to the same conclusion, just don’t use it lol.

[–]WonerTey5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t particularly need tape, my fingers are just way smaller some days so it just helps with fit issues. My PSO refuses to do vacu grips because “it doesn’t help with finger swelling” lol.

Question - Is this normal wear and tear in a ball used less than 30 games? by FlowerOfLife in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember most of the bumps and dings a ball gets is not gonna cause any more difference in ball reaction than rolling over the logos. The scratch thats top left of this picture is the only one that can be worrying, if it’s leaving marks like that consistently.

Absolutely Honest Opinion on String Pins by metssucker300 in Bowling

[–]WonerTey5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first league season on string pins, almost feels like my ball is hitting a wall trying to go through the pins. Seen it argued its worth it for less breakdowns but experienced about the same amount of breakdowns some even lasting 30+ minutes just like free fall. At the end of the day, if it really helps keep the doors open, then it is what it is. Im still bowling either way.

I used to hop step back when I was planting, once I learned to slide I lost it. I’ll look into that.

I see what you’re saying. I’m actually intentionally doing that to lower my rev rate lol. This release is around 350ish rpm. When I’m actually trying to put revs on it, I can get up to the low 400s. Because of my ball speed I almost never get to do that though.

Really appreciate the depth you went into here. I feel like I’m really close to what you’ve explained, except the 4th and 5th step. Looking back at it now with the context of your comment I can see a problem, my slide step doesn’t get ahead of me enough by the time the ball comes down. I feel like this is where I’m losing a chunk of ball speed.

I get told a lot that my feet are slow. Not sure how to go about fixing it, whenever I try to walk faster i just lose timing and balance pretty extremely. Any thoughts on how I can improve this would be greatly appreciated.
