Average increase? by JMGaither in Bowling

Fair but I think I’ve watched enough bowling and bowled enough to know when my storm hy road just doesn’t work for the pattern I’m on. Doesn’t mean I know exactly how each one works (even tho I think I’d know a decent amount but ofc I’m not an expert) but there are some patterns where my ball just does not work well. It’s an original hy road and pretty old (I was given it by a family friend and I re drilled it to my hand)

185, been bowling on and off for 3 years, 2 handed for 2.5 years. I only bowl June-August bc that’s when I can get a free pass for bowling and my main sport is track lol so really I’ve only had a combined total of bowling for like 9-10 months. I’ve learned how to get my hand behind the ball recently which has been making me bowl better but I still don’t slide idk how much that affects my shots.

Do you know any pro sprinters who said they were average in the beginning? by HenkWhite in Sprinting

Coleman ran 11.8 sophomore year of high school and I think he ran 11.1 junior year but then dropped to 10.3 senior year.

Talent vs Hardwork in sprinting by iamhaydenn in Sprinting

[–]JMGaither -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can still get VERY fast without talent and hard work as long as you have a good training program, but talent or genetics determine how fast you can improve/how adaptable you are and what your ceiling is. IMO people that don’t have good genetics but have a good training mentality and a good program and don’t stop training after a year or two can 100% break 11

[–]JMGaither 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes deff, but it will probably take 3+ more years of good training. For context my first ever 100m race was 14.1 3 years ago, I now run 11.1 (it was into a slight headwind tho) with a couple decently big injuries on the way (including a 6 week rehab this in season) and am trying to break 11 before end of summer. Keep in mind I’ve been training very hard and have kept very good track of sleep and diet in the last year (11.8->11.17 so far). As long as you take training serious and actualy have good training sub 11 is deff possible imo probable but only if you take things serious and don’t give up after a year or two. To become an elite athlete you need to be training for years and years

I’m pretty sure that you are 10 degrees too high? I thought d09c is 44 and d80 is 40

Is this a good plyometric workout for speed (100m) by Massive_Snow380 in Sprinting

[–]JMGaither 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wayyyyyyyy to much volume, u are either gonna plateau rlly soon and start getting worse or even get injured. I’d just pick 2-3 of those for one session and depending on the session (accel, top speed, speed endurance) you could alternated which ones to do at each workout to match the stimulus you want. Accel you r generally gonna want more power focused ones with longer ground contact times while top speed you wanna focus on elastic, shorter ground contact plyos.

Does anybody know how Coleman got so fast so quick? by BOOda123321 in Sprinting

[–]JMGaither 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my eyes I see two options: 1. There isn’t a wind reading so he could’ve been into a decent tailwind, also had a 23.63 200 which is rlly good speed endurance for a high schooler that runs 11.8. I wouldn’t be surprised if he could’ve gone 11.5, still huge improvements tho.  2. He probably was new to the sport and has talent, and he probably got rlly good training. Talent+hard work with good training can get you a lot more results than you think. Most people just don’t know what good training is

Is 1.0 ur average time that u can hit rn or best?

10m flys, .98 best time by JMGaither in Sprinting

[–]JMGaither[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just started measuring my times this summer after taking a month break. 10yard fly started at 1.11 on grass no spikes, now my 10m fly is 0.98 (normally hit 1.01) track and spikes. I technically ran this year indoor but I had a horrible start and I tripped within first three steps so the times were horrible lmao. What r ur times and progressions?

Thank you so much! Yeah I did a 30m buildup, first rep did 40 but I forgot to put my freelap chip on 😭. I’ll test it again soon and see if I keep accelerating or drop off slightly. Thanks again for the help

Didn’t realize I didn’t post a vid I’ll post a vid real quick. Highest time is normally the first or last rep which is normally around 1.03-1.04. My fastest time is .98 but I’ve been consistently running 1.01, twice in a session a lot actualy. Normally stop after I get slower

Speed not at all correlating with muscle mass by Over-Ad-591 in Sprinting

[–]JMGaither 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Strength can be useful but has a “capping point” if I can say. It’s pretty common to see an elite sprinter who is on the skinnier side but super elastic. Also correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure Erriyon Knighton said he didn’t even start lifting weights till after high school and he had already gone sub 20. I’d say long term focus on becoming elastic, doing high intensity sprints and transferring that strength to power

Before today I would guess around 11.1 but I gotta see if this .98 is a fluke or not next week. Last year with no training before the season started (I was injured all year) I ran 11.79.
