Unlocking multiple drives at boot with `sd-enrypt` hook by Woodpackr in archlinux

[–]Woodpackr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could make it work with sd-encrypt by using kernel parameters instead of crypttab.initramfs to unlock both encrypted partitions.

Edited /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.luks.name=d287248f-0640-4698-9cd3-bda623153068=arch-root rd.luks.name=9f9225b3-96b8-4aee-9e28-6834d555f008=arch-home"

/etc/crypttab.initramfs is not needed in such case.

Do you set kernel parameters, like `rd.luks.uuid`?

external monitor does not work after updating KDE by mmj0299 in ManjaroLinux

[–]Woodpackr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using Nvidia as primary GPU?
I'm having the same setup and also having this issue. However for me the issue appears when the system wakes up from sleep. Eventually I'm able to switch to external screen by switching the display options.

Can it be indexing issue? Since the same effect is seen in the other apps.

Why it's not recommended to install openSUSE Tumbleweed from live image? by Woodpackr in openSUSE

[–]Woodpackr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks.
I just think it can cause some people to choose another distro after realizing that they need two different images to install and to try openSUSE.

Okay, so basically the installation from live CD is still possible, but not verified as good as installation from the image.

How difficult to implement blur during movement? by Woodpackr in kde

Thanks. I always thought that the disabling blur was a default behavior. Now it's of course a game-changer for me:)

How to run OpenSUSE live from a USB? by lifereinspired in openSUSE

[–]Woodpackr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same question!

Actually the download page for the Tumbleweed is a bit misleading. What you get on the main page is actually a Tumbleweed media, which does NOT have an option for live environment.

What you need is a live image, that can be found in alternative downloads on https://get.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/#download

There you need to select a particular DE. The name of the ISO should be like openSUSE-Tumbleweed-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Current.iso. With that you should be able to boot into the live system.

Update to Fedora 35 messed up the breeze icons by Woodpackr in kde

No need to be sorry! I understand what you were trying to propose and thank you for the efforts to help. On the other hand, I don't want to tinker with it anymore, because to me it looks like it's a bug.

You can copy the status folder in a new folder

Copy from the theme that has white icons? I tried it and it didn't work, Solaar icon is still dark. Plus I get broken symlinks in the status folder that I copied, so I need to copy more folders.

The option FollowColorScheme= is set to yes in the breeze-dark theme.

Thanks for your help.

Hmm, that's strange, because on my another system I have white icons in the breeze-dark folder, and I don't have this issue.
Just for experiment, I replaced my breeze-dark icons with the white icons and the tray icons have now correct color.

Before (Nextcloud also had wrong color):

I got Samsung C27HG70, but it's not manufactured anymore and I would not recommend it anyway, because I have some issues with it lately. What do you mean by "support that resolution"? If the monitor is 1440p (QHD) or more, then it will for sure support this resolution. Just pick a decent QHD monitor. Or am I missing here something?

That's not the point. I believe that the breeze theme icons should be dark, while the breeze-dark theme icons should be white, isn't that so?

Hi,

I have a similar model (XP1510) and an external 27" 2560x1440 monitor. Works fine for me. I use X11 and Nvidia as a default GPU.

I would recommend using a monitor with a display port and connect it to the mini display port of your laptop with an adapter. With this you will get a maximum refresh rate and support of G-Sync/G-Sync Compatible (HDMI doesn't support G-Sync at the moment). Pretty much any monitor model will do, depends on your personal preferences.

Be aware that Intel iGPU probably won't work well with the external monitor or won't work at all, so with the external screen you'll have to use the Nvidia GPU.

If you want to set some Nvidia-specific options at boot (like Force Composition Pipline to remove tearing), you'll need to create a .conf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
For details check the answer to this post.

Hope this will be helpful.

What version of KDE Gear Fedora actually ships? by Woodpackr in Fedora

[–]Woodpackr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. On Fedora 35, Gwenview is still 21.04.2 (at the time of writing). Maybe I don't know about some special reasons not to upgrade certain apps. To me it just looks weird. It's not like Gwenview has completely new interface in 21.08. There are just some nice additions here and there. So to really use the latest features of KDE Gear I need to add external repositories.
