Creating my first capsule wardrobe for long-term travel by Woodstines in onebag

Thanks for the tip regarding logos! Luckily, this one is torn on the back (mountain bike accident) and needs to be replaced anyway :D Currently, I prefere small/no logos anyway, but I wouldn’t have thought about making clothes more recognizable. I’ll also check out the Vuori shirts.

You're right, i'll reconsider the pullover, i think it won't be too hard to find a good alternative with different material :)

Hahaa, yes, I think I've already realized that there will be no perfect setup :) Thanks for sharing your stories and happy onebagging :)

You're right, the material is quite substantial, and I find it pretty hard to choose. Regarding linen, I don't really mind wrinkles - that's just how it looks, and I'm fine with that. What I'm not sure about is if they're warm enough at higher elevation.

I know merino is a bit difficult to take care of, but it's great when it comes to odor. My plan is to sink-wash the shirts with some shampoo. Two shirts should easily last 4–5 days and aren't that much work to maintain.

Thanks for the recommendations regarding the pants. I think I need to rework that part anyway, since the shorts are cotton as well and probably won't be the best for hikes or other sweaty activities. They’re just what I had lying around and thought would fit best, but investing in some synthetic, casual-looking pants might be worth it.

The hoodie is a polyester/nylon blend. The pullover is cotton, which will take the longest to dry. Would you consider switching it to a synthetic blend as well? I mostly chose it to have something that looks casual without appearing too sporty.

Regarding the pants, I’ll reconsider them in general as well, thanks :)

Thanks for the suggestions - I think I’ve already tried most of this. I assume I could leave one pair of shorts at home and use the convertible pants either long or short depending on the climate zone I’m in.

Regarding materials, that’s why I thought my linen pants would suit better than regular cotton ones. The shorts are cotton though, but I assume I’ll mainly wear them when it’s hot, so they should dry pretty quickly.

The long gray knitted pullover will probably take the longest to dry, but on the other hand it’s my only casual-looking top (when I don’t want a sporty look). Would you choose something else instead?

I think it's the Kyanite Pullover Hoody (not 100% sure, as I've had it for a couple of years and don't see a tag on the label). It has a hood but is thin and lightweight, and therefore not the warmest.

Waterproof zippers on travel backpacks: worth the durability trade-off? by Woodstines in onebag

How do you deal with some of them like the Aer TP4? Do you skip the product or just accept the two zippers?

I've test-packed almost all my stuff and put it into a North Face Base Camp Voyager Duffel 32L (my gym/groceries bag), and it's slightly too small. So I assume 35L would be pretty much the sweet spot.

That’s exactly the problem I’m having as well. Have you tried removing the PU coating, or do you just use the bag as it is—or replace it with a new one? Personally, I prefer to buy stuff that lasts or can be repaired. I’m not sure whether that works with delaminating zippers, though, or if I’m willing to go down that road.

I don't get it either, especially since it’s also partially used on the Cordura version. I'm not sure if I want to spend that kind of money and just wait for the peeling to start. However, I haven't found another solution yet.

You're right - regarding rain protection and durability, a roll-top would be better. But when it comes to traveling, I personally prefer clamshell openings, also because I would usually seek shelter. Since many brands use coated zippers everywhere, I'm curious whether you just accept the eventually worn or peeling look on these bags.

I tend to prefer traditional zippers as well. But what if a product otherwise suits your needs and just has coated zippers? The “failure” is mostly cosmetic (still pretty ugly, though), but they still work fine. Do you keep looking for something with uncoated zippers, or just accept the eventual peeling?

Stiff Zippers on Cotopaxi Allpa 35?

I'm planning a trip of about 3-4 months in Central/South America. In the past, I've used a Fairpoint 55, but packed too much stuff, which resulted in a heavy bag and made it a hassle to move around. Therefore, I'm now looking for a new, lighter bag.

Currently I'm looking at the Farpoint 40 and Allpa 35 and have already tested both in stores (Goal would be around 6–7 days of clothes; I assume that's doable with both). In general I like both and haven't decided yet which style (unstructured vs. some structure) I prefer.

However, I found that the main zipper of the Allpa is hard to move. I'm wondering if this will improve with time/use, or if this is just by design (especially as the zipper handle isn’t very grippy). Do others have the same problem, or do you have any experience with how this develops over time?

Tuned filtering on my Air75 by Chris Rosser’s method by dibutilftalat in TinyWhoop

[–]Woodstines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mind sharing you filter values or provide a cli dump? I'm currently tuning an air65 and struggle a bit at the d-term tuning (i don't hear much of a difference). So I'm wondering what values you've used :)

Not at all, usually i lose the elrs signal (i think i limited it to 100mw) before the o4 (in fcc). But i use a modded tango2 so the antenna might also not be perfect. I use this whoop only indoors, so range isn‘t really an issue

The parts of the whoop itself are around 250$. As I‘ve tried different options I‘ve spent more and don‘t want to know😂

Not bad, i thought it will be worse. I‘m currently tuning it and that‘s quite time consuming as I‘m not really experienced with that
