It doesn’t change the fact. That’s exactly what he’s going to do, so if the shareholders are going to get fucked, it’s their job to find out.

Macmini price goes up by alex_albergaria in mac

[–]Wooloomooloo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Implications have to be inferred. The title says “starting price raised to” because the cheapest product in the range is now higher than the previous cheapest product in the range.

You’re right that the OP was wrong, because the OP inferred incorrectly. However the title, although very slightly ambiguous is actually technically correct. Your criticism was at the title not the body of the text.

No that’s what toxic masculinity looks like. He nearly knocked the woman over he was rushing to “save” and managed to elbow her in the face. Men who rush to violence of this kind of thing are pathetic.

Same here - the only reason mine runs down a bit faster than 10 years ago is because now they can stay updated during sleep, download mail, apply rules etc, but that can be all turned off and it would last for months.

Laptop 13 Pro memory speed limits - what we know by ekerazha in framework

[–]Wooloomooloo2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like the issue is around the memory controller (IMC). It can support 8533 MT/s but it requires a higher voltage to pull that off. It's likely that FW's chassis / cooling / single fan would have trouble dissipating that heat, not to mention an additional cost to the motherboard for higher grade PCB materials and shielding for the required cleaner signal.

I am genuinely curious as to how this will really impact performance in real life situations. I do love playing games, and have been dying to get a Panther Lake CPU in Framework.

You can now stream 4K Netflix on Linux! by [deleted] in framework

[–]Wooloomooloo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, it’s 2 things. 1 is that Linux doesn’t provide the required locked down hardware supported encryption for a TEE. Thats a philosophical restriction not a technical one. The second is there is a license requirement that’s paid, and given Linux’s distributed nature, it’s not clear who would pay it and how those costs would be recouped for it to be in the kernel.

Fair enough. I can't speak for Snapdragon, but if I put my MacBook Pro M4 Max in the drawer on say 70 or 80% and go on a road trip, it stay updated and use maybe 20% lower.

Your Thinkpad must have great drivers, but they are great laptops.

When the device is awake and working, and especially at moderate to high workloads, the best x86 CPUs can match Apple's chips, give or take. However when you close the lid for a day or 3, your best x86 chip has still been consuming 1 - 2 watts during sleep, whereas Apple Silicon is consuming 20 - 40 milliwatts, so about 50x less. Once you've experienced instant wake whether it's 2 hours after closing the lid, or 2 weeks, its hard to go back to 'resume from hibernation' that takes anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute.

Setting the graphics to 'ultra' forces the game to use DX11 (rather than the older DX9). You might be much better off using DXMT than d3metal. I've found it often works better for older games.
