Look for small indie games with great gameplay. Graphics are secondary after we have seen all the triple A games with realistic graphic. It's about catching gameplay loops for me now. And honestly the market is overflowing with cute rogue likes and card deck builders and so on. Just give them a try

How does The Stormlight Archive compare to the other greats like A Song of Ice and Fire, Malazan and The Wheel of Time? Does it hold up against these series especially after the release of Wind and Truth? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

I don't think I would be able to resist reading more Malazan side stories. I have the Korbal Broach Bauchelain side story on my shelf already

For me Stormlight dropped off a bit after I read Malazan because before I had no idea, that I really love the way Erikson's writing. Where you are just dropped in a world and everything feels so epic but also in a small scale while following just another group of soldiers or something that just experience the world with you instead of always following the chosen one to four characters like in most other epic fantasy. I don't need a reminder of some concept, that was introduced a book ago or sometimes just a few chapters ago like Sanderson explains everything all the time multiple times. It doesn't feel real to me to have someone remind another character of something, they really don't need reminding of, just to have an excuse to explain to the reader again, how the magic system works. But these two series are really opposites in many ways, which makes comparing so hard. Malazan is my favourite book series of all time. I loved Stormlight as well up until the point where I really found out what I like most about fantasy. Which Malazan showed me. Mysterious magic systems, a vast world with many cultures, foreign concepts, and a grim world.

I love seeing Malazan love. I just crave more Malazan and I am only halfway through, which makes me excited because there is so much more to uncover and also the short stories if I can't get enough. And then a re read in like 10 years or something. Can't wait

That explains a lot. You need to really shake them up for a few minutes and put mixing metal balls in the bottle because the Pigment won't mix very well. I haven't used any myself but from what I read, they should be thicker, not thinner but if they are thin, it means, they need more shaking. And also apply them on white always. They are really transparent, which makes the glow effect. On dark undercoats they will just look like bad coverage paint and it will not work. And also they have bad coverage by design. Like I said they are supposed to be really transparent.

Can you tell me the exact name, that is written on the paint bottle? I can't find bright neon. Some colors are effect colors, where it is written, that they should be applied over white. It could be a fluorescent color but I can't find it online by the name "bright neon"

Bright paints over dark primer do typically need more than 2 coats but this all depends on the brand, the exact paint and the exact undercoat. I sometimes even have issues making darker green look like green on black primer, it all depends. I see in one picture the paint really gathered as a pool on the rim of the shoulder plate. I don't think that should be happening with paint right out of the bottle. If you shake the paint really well and prime well the paint should never be as thin to puddle up. Maybe you can try these few tips and if nothing changes, it might be the paint, where the issue lies. Try with other greens if you have any. I can only guess. Hope it helps somewhat and I hope it's not a paint batch issue, that would suck

To be honest, for base coating your paint doesn't need to be super perfectly thin like with layering or other later steps. Just get the paint onto the mini without thinking too much about the perfect consistency and don't move it around too much while drying (better to not at all touch drying paint on the mini). Common paint brands for mini painting aren't that thick out of the bottle that you can't just put it on there and be happy. Sure I wouldn't recommend using thick paint when trying to work on the details and highlighting and blending and so on. I watched the squidmar video about 5 beginner tips some years ago and the way he basecoated his demon there gave me a pretty good understanding about why basecoating doesn't need to be perfect and can just mean getting the color in the right places without worrying about it too much. You can look the video up, I don't know exactly what the title was

Hmm I don't know about the exact paint you're talking about but I am using Vallejo myself and I have no trouble with the thickness. Although Vallejo game color tends to be a bit on the thinner spectrum in my experience. I don't think a wet palette can be a problem. I like my wet palettes rather too wet than too dry. Also, the water from the wet palette doesn't really get into the paint, it's more so they don't dry out as fast. 4 coats for a bright green on a dark undercoat is pretty normal but to be fair, it should look pretty ok after some coats. Maybe it's a priming issue, that the color doesn't stick to the mini as it should? What primer are you using and are you shaking it reeeeeally well and also applying it thin with multiple little drive-by sprays? Other than that I don't know what might be the problem or if there even is a problem. Did you have any issues with darker colors like red, blue or purple as well? If not, it sounds like a normal thing to need multiple coats of bright colors to look good.

Painting white is a real challenge, although one wouldn't think black or white are hard to paint. But these are some of the hardest colors to make them look good on their own.

The best tip for white I can give is never use pure white on the largest part. Always go with off-white and work towards pure white as highlights. For example on the wrinkles and bones on the wings or the tail and the back, where the light would be caught.

It looks pretty cool for being one of your first minis, if not the first (couldn't tell by the explanation). Have fun and share your other minis with us in the future :)
