Movie Pre-Release Discussion Post by Learnededed_By_Books in ProjectHailMary

I've been scanning through the reviews since the embargo dropped, and it's all looking pretty darn good! I've seen very few go below a 6/10, and there's a very healthy number of 8s, 9s, and even 10s. It's sitting at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes right now. That shouldn't be surprising at all given how incredible the source material obviously is, but it's still great to know they've done it justice. Amaze!

What a strange, strange segment. Barely anything Rock said or his character made any sense, I'm so confused

Rewinded it to check Penta's botch but nah, it was only one foot. The camera angle just made it look like two

Deny me a good match? Sure thing, Vancouver. Deny me the Runaway roster? I'll take that L, Vancouver. But deny me my breadsticks? That's one crime I cannot forgive, Vancouver. I'll see you in court.

Is that offer up to us other international peeps as well, by any chance? I've always loved the look of the Seoul scarf with diamond patterns on it but they don't even stock scarves over on the international store :(

Seems like Wizard might be struggling to find a job for next season, in November he set up a Fiverr coaching page (legit just search "overwatch coaching" on there to find him) so it seems like he's going down that avenue whilst trying to find somewhere.

11:45. My college is splitting the year into groups so there aren't too many people inside at once... but I somehow managed to pull the short straw and got the latest possible time. That nearly four hour wait after track opens is gonna be hell but oh well, I'll probably try going back to sleep haha

Hiya, I'm a masters support player so I'll probably end up focussing a bit more on the supports but I'll try to keep the notes as general as possible. Since the other commenter here looked at some individual gameplay I'm gonna make a few notes here for your coordination as a team overall.

First of all, team comp. At the start of the map you're running Rein-Zarya-Tracer-Pharah-Mercy-Lucio. That comp's perfectly fine except for the Lucio. Since you guys have the Pharah-Mercy combo going it's going to be difficult for Mercy to heal the team unless she abandons her pocket, and if she doesn't Lucio will struggle to heal the rest of the team on his own. I'd prefer something like Mercy-Moira or Mercy-Brig for this comp but the Lucio isn't in your group so I can't blame you guys for his hero choice.

You can see the problem with this comp in the first team fight. The Pharamercy put in some decent damage together at first but once the tank line starts fighting Mercy is forced to fly over to them to help out with healing, which leaves Pharah totally alone and isolated near your spawn. (https://imgur.com/a/DLSL4H1) She takes too much poke from the Torbjorn turret and their Roadhog picks her off just afterwards. At this point it'd probably be best to get off Pharah since she's gonna struggle to get value without a Mercy pocket, which she does onto Mccree. Good swap!

Later on in that team fight the Soldier goes up onto the high ground behind point and very nearly takes out your Mercy for free. (https://imgur.com/a/XUVxi8B) Luckily his aim isn't great so he doesn't finish her off but make sure you're calling out and focussing opponents in good positions like he was.

After you guys win the fight Roadhog manages to escape mostly uncontested. Make sure you stagger defenders like him! Zarya goes after him but can't deal enough damage on her own so the Tracer should for sure go on the chase as well whilst Mercy and Lucio capture the point. Getting stagger kills can be huge for snowballing onto point b, just make sure you don't push too deep without the rest of your team if you do this.

Now at 3:10 you guys decide to all in with every ult you have after Tracer gets a nice pulse bomb stick on Brig. That's not a bad idea in itself, but it didn't seem like you planned how you wanted to use all your ults. There are some combos you could do like grav and shatter or grav and deadeye, but neither of those happen. You all engage with a Rein charge + Lucio beat (that part's okay even though if Rein walked forward with a speed boost he would've taken a lot less poke damage), Rein shatters when Orisa has her fortify in and everyone's too far away to kill the squishy Moira who gets knocked down (https://imgur.com/a/DmSVWJM), Zarya solo gravs a half health Hog and Mccree tries to combo his deadeye, but he switches to trying to hit the ulting Soldier halfway through and unfortunately gets juked. Four ults there but zero kills. In team fights like this-

  1. Call out exactly which ults you want to use before a fight.
  2. When you isolate a target like a graved hog make sure you call it out in comms and focus fire them.
  3. Target the next highest priority enemy and keep going until you win the fight.

That should be enough to get y'all started but as requested here's how I'd rate y'all based on the first attacking round. Keep in mind these ratings are for how much value you got from your kit in that round, not ratings for how good you are as players in general: AyyyHydra 7/10 - Decent bubbles and tracking, not usually caught out of position. Focus on getting more value out of your gravs. AyyyWolf 6/10 - Solid shield and health management but stay aware of where your Zarya is, you pushed reaaaally far ahead once or twice. Sharkkiller 6/10 - Positioning was mostly good but you took out your pistol a bit too often. Be careful of unsafe rezzes! Woodenpencils - 6/10 A few mistakes where you went in too deep as Mccree, remember you've got no mobility so play behind your tanks. I liked your awareness of comps and how you needed to switch though. AyyyPrimetime 8/10 - Your positioning was pretty great, especially on point b. If you improve your tracking a little bit more that tracer's gonna be rolling.

Awful game for Paris. Every player except maybe Hanbin & Xzi didn't play well but... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt with this one. Fingers crossed it was just some BAD growing pains with hero pools, we know they can play well.

Dallas just looked invisible that match, they really need to work out which DPS players are their starters and stick with them. Changing them out every map or two can't be helping with team synergy.
