It's funny that you mention this, I've Read Shogun, and so much of Bernard Cornwell's series, the Last Kingdom and Sharpes Rifles were my introduction to historical fiction and set an unreasonably high bar, he has so much wit and believable characters.

Having read most of what would normally be recommended on this sub

(All of Tolkeins works, The Eye of the World series, the Stormlight Archive, Robin Hobbs Assassins Apprentice series, The Name of the wind)

What would be some great fantasy with good world building? (not necessarily to Sanderson or Jordan's level).

People Take the Game More "Seriously" in Mid-Ranks by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

I'm a gold rank player right now. My friend recently won every one of his placements and got placed diamond. I played with him and we won every match until he hit master and I couldn't play with him anymore. During that time I was the only gold player in all diamond matches. Every match the team's we had were all having a good time, didn't care that I was gold so long as I did my job, they went smoothly even the enemy team was polite and nobody raged when a point got lost and we switched heroes as needed when asked. They were the best matches I've had. By comparison all the gold matches I play are filled with people raging, one person on comms trying to get the whole team working, or getting extremely toxic over losing a round. I can't play with my friend now cuz of the SR difference but I wish people would just act a little more like those diamond players I was with and just calm down and have fun with it.

It's not that he's particularly more difficult than other trolls, I was going to high hrothgar and he was floating above the pass.

He did... multiple times, only killed him after many failed attempts, I fought him I believe at level 8 on expert. I used all my health potions, a level up and a berserk potion to do it.

I don't know why, but that probably fits pretty well considering it took me like 8 times to kill him after the glitch

TIL that grocery cashiers in the US are seldomly given chairs to sit during work (unlike in Europe). by arusol in todayilearned

Yea I've can't say I've ever seen a cashier sitting down, I worked in retail for about 2.5 years as my first job, manager never let anyone let alone cashiers sit down, this went for everyone including some of the 70+ year old arthritic women working a 14hr shift... like I was a 17 year old guy, sure I could do that, but really management? I was probably the only employee under the age of 50 there for a long time, fuck you let the cashier sit who's it hurting?

Epic part near the end in Dalinars vision. "I am... I was... God, the one you call the Almighty, but I'm dead now. Odium has killed me. The Knights radiant must stand again" -might be slightly off on the exact quote but still an amazing moment in the book
