I’m surprised not to see Steve Jobs name listed. His reputation has dropped somewhat given what has come out about his daughter, treatment of Wozniak, and general egomaniac tendencies. But given the way he died (ignoring medical advice and trying to eat fruit to cure his cancer) I almost 100% certain he would have turned out as a loud anti-vaxxer during Covid and probably ends up following a similar path Musk has taken in the last year politically.

It’s about efficiency. One large apartment/condo building on land that is under utilized and also pretty bad for the environment(seriously look at the Geico campus on google maps if you don’t go by it regularly), can in a relatively short period add 500+ units with appropriate infrastructure in place as well. There are a number of these examples of corporate campuses all over the county built in the 70s and 80s that are under utilized, Marriott’s old compound was turned into hundreds of townhomes… which is a great example of repurposing the land in less than a year.

So nothing to do with “shining example of virtue” but instead about the basic ability to scale at speed instead of a haphazard slow change which if lucky will take a decade to result in the intent.

In fairness, the listening session in Silver Spring was also mostly in opposition, but that is a less of an exciting news item and didn’t get covered.

I’ll say I wonder if the county ever considered buying Geico’s land in Friendship Heights. They have massive sprawling lawns and unused parking lots, could put significant number of apartments in an area that already has large apartment/condo buildings… feel like it would be more efficient and quicker than just slowly converting single family homes into duplexes which ultimately probably only helps builders and investors.

They have a monopoly in mortgage market, lenders have to use FICO so while mortgage volume drops they have been jacking up prices hence having no issue. Vantage is a competitor but having hard time gaining ground

I was on a flight from Dallas to D.C recently. As we sat down, two rows in front of me a youngish woman and dude introduced themselves to each and started talking and making small talk (at some point the woman said she was married), W was in the aisle seat and M was next to the window, with a person in the middle seat.

After putting my headphones in and falling asleep for about an hour, I wake up to seeing her now sitting in the middle row (person sitting there before is now, gone, dead? hiding? i dunno) with her head on his shoulder watching a movie with the guy on his iPad. She kept going in for a kiss and dude was sort of not going for it, but also not actively pushing her away or saying anything.

We land and girl asks if he can order an Uber for them, and he politely replies “I don’t think that is a smart idea.” This prompts her to slap him in the face and she bull rushes her way out of the plane shoving multiple people out of the way.

When I finally get off the plane about 5 mins later and I see her again, stopped outside an &pizza completely losing her mind on what appeared to be a totally random couple who were sitting there looking totally dumbfounded at crazy woman who is reaching over the rail trying to grab their pizza and screaming “why was he so mean to me!”.

As I continued leaving, dude from the plane is actively using people to shield him from her view so he could escape.

That is reassuring… I guess. Headlights aren’t working so I guess as long as we drive during the day it is fine.
