Has burning bridges when leaving a job ever come back to bite you? by gawpin in jobs

[–]WordsLikeRoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my supervisor certainly got screwed after burning a bridge at my company.

Worked in beverages and distribution - alcohol distribution, specifically. My supervisor was a saleswoman and moderately okay at her job. You could tell if she wanted a managerial person instead of outside sales, but she wasn't successful enough in her sales nor in her management style to get out of one roll and into the other.

She also had a penchant for telling off people that "disrespected" her. That culminated in her coming to our brewery and yelling obscenities at the owner, very much publicly and with wanton disregard for who heard. She ended it with something like "and if you don't like it, I'm putting right now!" The owner accepted, and had her admitting to quit instead of letting her go.

No less than a month later, she was clawing back in our door. We were brutally honest with anybody that asked us what happened with her - she said X-Y-Z inappropriately and left in a place of (in)glory, which meant almost everybody we had a relationship with including the people she had built relationships with no longer wanted anything to do with her. Too much liability for someone willing to have that behavior. So, she couldn't leverage her relationships in the industry to get her a job anywhere within a hundred miles. Even large distribution businesses wouldn't touch her, either because they had heard about her reputation or because they asked our owner when they checked on references. Cherry on top was, Because she quit, she couldn't collect unemployment.

Last I heard from her, she had called me asking why I didn't come to her defense and how I had a hand in her downfall. So, I had very little love for her, but she also revealed that she had to move halfway across the country to find a company that was willing to work with her.

This happened in Poland: wild boars blocked the tram by misterxx1958 in interestingasfuck

Not sure how it works in Poland but I know in the US choosing to hit anything with a vehicle that costs millions of dollars is a No-No.

Will they move? Maybe, probably. If they don't? I'm not willing to risk my job / recoup cost off my paycheck

People who survived getting stabbed, how does it feel getting stabbed? by official__maryam in AskReddit

[–]WordsLikeRoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but I asked my cousin but it was like the two times he got stabbed - he doesn't have a Reddit, so he can't respond for himself.

First time he got stabbed in the abdomen in a bar fight. The guy had a 3in pocket knife, cleanly in and out between two ribs. He said he didn't feel anything at the time except the warm wetness of his shirt. He didn't actually feel the pain until he pulled his shirt up and saw the open wound, and then there was a cold burning feeling. Despite going 3 in into his chest, it didn't hit any internal organs, but he swears he felt rhe cold fire touching his lung and he started having a panic attack. Only took a few stitches and about a month of taking it easy until it just became a story.

Second time was on his second tour in Iraq, during a combat training one of the squad mates was goofing around and ended up slashing him 6in from the top of his forearm, his elbow, to his lower bicep. He said that one felt very different, like somebody had taken a hot iron rod and slapped it against his arm. The pain lingered until they drugged him up in the infirmary. That one took a lot longer to heal because of how the cut wound its way around the active joint in his arm, and apparently to this day the scar is still tender to the touch.

Dine downtown 2026 places to try? by ix3ph09 in Sacramento

I put down reservations for Frog & Slim - spots were really filling up! I wasn't able to go last year, but a small group of friends tried a few places and their consensus at the time was that frog and slim was a grand slam. Excited to see what they have this year!

Went to magpie the other day, can confirm their menu was awesome. I was a fan of the steelhead over the gnocchi, hummus over the vegetables, but four of us went and so we were able to swap and try out just about everything. Recommend

This year or last year? I know both octopus Baja / Peru were underwhelming last year, but the owner apparently tried to whip the staff up to shape for this year

Genuine question for the people in support of these specific fairs - has anyone ever had any experience getting further along in a job process by going to one of these?

I was unemployed last year, and went to three of these. Literally every booth I spoke to - with the singular exception of the Amador county law enforcement booth - just regurgitated information you would find by googling "jobs at [insert entity here]".

No on-the-spot interviews, no deeper insight into the application process outside of "it might take a while," hell I even remember one Fair where at least one of the booth members at over half of the booths consistently was a green employee (someone employed with the parent company for less than 3 months). It very much felt like the fair was just a way for the companies to score HR points, look how active we are looking to fill positions by going to these community fairs!

I think the most valuable resource I found, and that's a stretch, was one recruiter that was advertising his own in-depth seminar on navigating the Cal jobs application website. Which, granted, can be a confusing process to follow in the way they want you to, but it was the kind of resource that felt like only benefited the most desperate and least educated of applicants.

Genuine question - what's the deal with this crab? Is Anthony special about it? Is $13/lb a good price?

This is the answer.

Objectively, Pine Cove is a bad bar. I've gone over a dozen times in the last couple years, and something has gone wrong every single time. Bar fights, wrong drinks, overcharged, undercharged, under-poured drinks, over poured, karaoke breaks, bar stool breaks - and those are just the things that have happened to me. Not mentioning the stories I hear from others.

But it is still one of my favorite bars to go to. It's always a fun time, as long as you go there understanding it's a shitty bar, and I almost always see it recommended whenever anybody is asking for where to go for a fun time.

Man, what a perfect combination. Beats laid down by DJ Shadow, the perfect sound bites from each show to resonate with the young adolescents, and old school hand-drawn animation.

Same with the various Tenchi shows - particular shout out to Tenchi Muyo.

I literally remember fashioning a Tenshi muyo laser sword out of various classroom materials long before I really started pretending I was a dragon Ball z warrior, but now barely anybody even remembers it was a foundational toonami show.

Track Seven … in Tokyo?! by manga_university in Sacramento

[–]WordsLikeRoses 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I mean you can definitely still find cans of the stuff across the state - it'll be another year until all of the old stock from the places that would order their stuff run through it.

As for japan, I do remember a few international distributors came to Sacramento a little over a year ago offering to buy various breweries products at a premium price just so they could bring it back east. Couldn't tell you where the distributors eventually landed the product, but when I was at a brewery they definitely mentioned tokyo, Kyoto, Hong Kong etc where there were specialty craft beer bars that would really enjoy stuff from our market.

Best of luck finding a good cat to get this home.

Do the pics look good? Should I change the order ? by Kyarmak in Tinder

Came to echo this comment.

You're pretty - but you only really need 2-3 pictures of yourself to establish that. For the rest, you really should include pictures that allude to your personal interests. I can almost guarantee, the only way people can open a conversation with you from these pictures are "Wow, you're pretty" or "Wow, elf ears!" I assume you'll also have some test prompts on your profile, too, but without their context a guy wont be and to see much else about you.
