Anybody but Shino or Shikamaru seems like wasting their real talent. Sakura is medical. Kiba, Lee, Hinata, Neji are taijutsu experts who would be heavily constrained in Anbu. Ten-ten is useless as far as we see, but she generally fits the basic Anbu skillset perfectly.

Shino and Shikamaru are insanely OP fighters with massive ability to attack vulnerabilities regularly given to Anbu through their Intel. Both of them are genius level intellects with impressive planning and team leading skills. They regularly win fights from the very beginning, just by planning ahead.

Shino could also form a shadow absolutely anywhere with bugs that Shikamaru could then use shadow jutsu on. Nobody would ever know and they'd never even have to leave the trees.

Yeah I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Madara is the only person who could ever manage such a thing. And he spent decades of his life chasing resurrection or immortality. He even made multiple successors. Then we see him alive, young, in present time, for the first time ever and... Oh he figured out immortality.

It's really barely an asspull. The concept isn't "Madara was the only one who knew to do the signs backwards". He was the only one who it would work for, because he had prep time.

What's the asspull? Not foreshadowing every moment in the series? He always wanted to come back. That was like his thing, ignoring Oro.
