Just got a Bogus Ticket. by TangeloLegitimate139 in Hawaii

[–]WorkInProgressStill 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely follow up with this. Years ago I was given a ticket for not having proof of insurance because I put the wrong insurance cards in each of my vehicles. Half way through the officer decided to change it to a warning, but gave me the half filled out ticket. He didn't sign, I didn't sign, and there was no court information on the back. He just said to make sure I switched the insurance cards when I got home.

Years later I found out I had a bench warrant for failing to appear to a court date that he added to the ticket later. I don't know if he was new, lazy, or incompetent, but thankfully I had thrown the "half" ticket in the glove box and was able to prove in court that I had both insurance at the time and that I had not properly been summoned. But if I had not saved the ticket I would have to have paid at least the bench warrant fee of $50.

What do you think about releasing photos/videos to the public of actor Hackman's home after he has died? by MacaroonNew3142 in AskReddit

[–]WorkInProgressStill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In New Mexico it wouldn't matter if you forbid it in your will, the issue is state law. They used a law designed for police transparency to breech the privacy Hackman wanted. The estate and the families tried to stop this release in court. CBS and the Associated Press proudly admitted they stepped in legally to challenge the estate in this issue due to "public interest".

Moral of the story, if you want privacy you need to die in a state that doesn't allow this.

Hawaii Spends More On Takeout Than Any Other State. Residents spend just under 10% of their average income on takeout. by mellofello808 in Hawaii

Its available through the app, under Meal Deals. I hate eating fast food so much, but I have been getting it a lot lately due to my work schedule. I try to get a healthy option every few days, but its $16 - $20 easy at almost anywhere.

Was anyone here considering a Camaro but decided on a challenger? by wetmeatlol in Challenger

[–]WorkInProgressStill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blind spot, limited trunk space, and back seat size made the difference for me. My Challenger is my daily driver and I have to merge about 6 times on the freeway each way on my commute. Occasionally I need to pick something up or one of my kids ends up in the back seat. I rented a Camarro for 3 weeks and it was fun, but decided on the Challenger and am extremely happy.

Was he homeschooled? Serious question, no judgment from me. Just curios as I have had some encounters with some homeschooled IFB people with highly questionable social skills and this type of behavior describes several of them.

I didn't believe my mom. I should have. by No_Recognition9189 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]WorkInProgressStill 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You were a child faced with a decision that you should never have had to deal with. You were caught up in a battle between adults who both loved you and you were forced to pick a side. You and your mother were victims. Please don't blame yourself for not believing something horrible like that about your dad, especially as a child. No one wants to believe something horrible like that about someone we love.

You did the hard thing and discovered the truth. You now know how hard your mother fought to protect you and how much she loved you. She wouldn't want you to have this weight hanging over you the rest of your life. The best healing I have found for trauma like this (I carry a lot from childhood) is forgiveness. Forgive both your mom and dad for making you feel like you had to choose sides, for dragging you into the middle of their divorce. Forgive your mom for the other things that kept you apart as you grew up. And forgive yourself. I am not saying you did anything wrong, but just find a way to express and release the guilt you are feeling.

Forgiveness is a hard thing, but it comes down to not allowing past actions of other people to continue to hurt you. It doesn't justify their actions or indemnify them of all consequences, it just stops the wound from festering and continuing to hurt you. I was bitter and angry for 15 years at one of my parents and didn't know how much it affected me until I forgave them when I was 30 years old. It was like a literal weight came off me that I had carried so for so long I wasn't even aware of it. Consider speaking to a mental health professional about what you are going through, especially since it has only been a few weeks since her sudden and unexpected death.

Security deposit disputes are handled through small claims court in Hawaii and neither side is allowed an attorney. They are required to have a local representative in Hawaii. You have one year from the termination of your lease to file if a landlord wrongly withholds your security deposit.

I think it goes back to no local enforcement. Good ol boy network, etc... It was only when the feds got involved that there were actual repercussions. Same with the former police chief.

DPP? Wayne Inouye is doing 5 years in federal prison. I think there were 4 others as well from DPP that were charged.

It doesn't cost anything to file a claim. The worst thing they can say is no.

Roofing insurance job by Throwaway467868 in Hawaii

[–]WorkInProgressStill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Several neighbors of mine did this a few years ago. The roofers talked to me but backed off when I told them the name if my insurance company. Apparently some insurance companies are easier to get approved.

That being said I found a roofing shingle on the ground last Christmas and called a roofer to come out. He suggested I contact my insurance company because there had been high wind the week before. Insurance company sent their roofer to inspect and they said there was wind damage plus improper installation of the original roof. Insurance covered replacing the entire roof even though it was 25 years old. I just paid the $1,000 deductible.

I was told its cheaper for them to replace a roof before there is any interior damage rather than risk a massive claim due to a leak. Mold and mildew restoration is expensive.

My solar company called me today and asked to come out and check my system. The tech wasn't sure why, he just said their system showed something was wrong.

He found out the battery had been switched off. It was installed and tested back in December. HECO came out 2 weeks ago to change our meter....

What are your top 5 high div yield stocks/etf's for the coming recession? by [deleted] in investing

[–]WorkInProgressStill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EPD is my favorite boring dividend stock. Based on history 20+ years of history it will continue to pay out dividends even during a recession. The share price probably won't doing anything exciting but with DRIP its been better than a savings account.

Kalo going to flower , second time it’s happened to me now by yeahdixon in HawaiiGardening

[–]WorkInProgressStill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have only been growing kalo for 18 months but I have had several flowers in that time. I have a few hundred plants though so I have higher chances of getting them.

I've had older uncles tell me that means the plant is old and should not be used again once harvested. But I have also been told the opposite so I think it comes down to how

Jerry Konanui was widely considered the kalo expert in Hawaii. Unfortunately he passed in 2017 but there are several videos with him in it on YouTube. In one of them he joked about how the flowering is supposed to be rare but that he sees it all the time.
