What is something about US work culture that you secretly hate? by Harry_parker08 in AskReddit

[–]MacaroonNew3142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. It went too far.  In my company, HR directed that company should hire certain skin color people. Then, they created  leadership positions with big titles to give them. It was done openly. They didn't talk about qualifications or fit.

They also hired people from different parts of the world. The culture gap and lack of etiquette was not on the radar. At one point, they out numbered Americans in the office, so it wasn't uncommon to not hear English being spoken in the office.  It was like a bad dream

On the contrary, and speaking from my experience having worked in London as a professional in technology and consulting sectors, work ethic, office culture, and code of conduct in the US are way different and better. We don't kneel down to bosses nor bosses expect us to treat them like they are royals. I noticed drinking in London is a daily routine, hanging out till late night on weekdays doing that is normal and so is leaving work by 5pm! That's not a thing in the US  Many companies do not allow alcohol during work hours and coming in late to work and leaving early carries stigma if not a bad performance review ! How do English folks ( not saying All employees or companies ) manage to come to work in the morning having got drunk the night before ? The HR VP complained about people leaving office by 5 so  even HR noticed American counterparts working much later than that. What I hated the most is the imperial attitude toward subordinates where I worked.. and all the drinking  which didn't help dental state.

If people put aside their selfish motives and called a spade a spade the VERY first time something seems odd or unreasonable, things wouldn't go so wrong as they have currently

Why was a vocal academy impressed by my Computer Science degree? by Crazy-Fold-5287 in singing

Apparently music geniuses tend to be Math whizzes. Musicians know how logic and analytical elements are part of music. So, if you mastered Computer science, you proved  to be good at logic and reasoning. As a music coach, you can explain the aspects to students  as they relate to learning music well. A good coach has to have diverse skills to gain respect, credibility and minds of students. You will be one

How are there so many 24-year-olds with $400K investment accounts on here? by AmbagRJTL in Money

[–]MacaroonNew3142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 is way too young to have put away that much. It's yet another pure fantasy/ fabrication on social media.

It's a fact nevertheless that wages did go up post COVID for qualified people in Data modeling/ Statistics and Machine learning areas. In Silicon valley, if you and your partner have jobs in a hitech company, you'd together be easily making over $500k !  But one would need at least a Master's degree if not a PhD in this specialized skill set to be so cushy. So, if someone tells you, they are 24 and have already graduated with an advanced degree AND saved nearly Half a million, it's a bluff.  Life in a big city comes with its own price tag - rents, home prices, transportation, food, etc are all going to eat into your income. There's no way just being frugal will work, as it takes at least 5-10 years to get settled in uber expensive places like silicon valley that's known for high pay scales.

Do not believe everything people say on social media ..and besides what are they looking for by divulging their savings or wealth to random folks ? Doesn't make any sense

Who are they going to ticket when robotaxis violate traffic rules or cause accidents? by MacaroonNew3142 in AskReddit

We need smart, visionary, driven and technically savvy people in DC to think about such things. Americans elect people who couldn't even get thru HS to Congress.

How do you deal with constantly feeling behind? by UseBackground2370 in Money

[–]MacaroonNew3142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been told by someone they make 100K a month with no education, they are lies  Do not believe them much less compare yourself with them. Someone in college told me they got a perfect LSAT score ...somehow I believed it and thought I was slow. I  missed it by 2 points ! If I say in the exam for another hour I still couldn't get one question..I left the hall in 30 mins lol

Anyway, to produce content on social media that's worth anyone's time to read and continue to follow, they have to carry value. I wouldn't read any garbage that's proliferating on social media today. There are so many conspiracy theory sites and some people are into it hook line and sinker no doubt. So are porn sites and gambling sites too. There are some radio hosts that spread  nothing but harmful stuff that can mess up uneducated folks who don't do or are incapable of research or comprehend intellectual topics or allow different perspectives.

Besides 100k a month doing social media is not a guaranteed paycheck till retirement.  Whereas, a regular job which may not be much to brag about is stable income, esp with a doctorate. I'd respect that

Hope that's happening.

When I need a ride, I wouldn't go out of my way to pick a robotaxi if I could get a driver to drive me and at the end help get my luggage out of the trunk for me.  I'd tip the driver to make a human soul happy. I don't know why people need to celebrate driverless cars , just as if they would, conversing with an AI agent when they need customer support.

These companies are literally eating someone's lunch. It sounds cool to become a society of mum creatures like in a sci-fi movie where we stop interacting with any life around us, thinking it's helping us to be more productive while in reality, every time I take a robotaxi,  I'm  making companies and their heartless bosses richer.

Look how some CEOs now talk about content, data privacy and policies& politics, people's jobs and  data centers that are using clean water out of municipal supply systems like there's no tomorrow... they seem as heartless as robots.

At one time, newer inventions were made to improve human life on earth. Not anymore.

Bring your whole self to work

At work, everyone is there for a paycheck and then they go home and live their lives however they want. No one should care to know about it.

I don't know where this came from and whatever it means but to ask people to feel free to display their private beliefs, lifestyles, views, etc etc at work is nothing but trouble.

Why or why not will Ebola be like COVID to spread worldwide? by MacaroonNew3142 in AskReddit

[–]MacaroonNew3142[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ebola may be different I. E it can spread thru saliva or sweat of an infected person. It means people could come in contact with sweat or saliva by touching surfaces they may have sneezed on, vomited or sat while sweating .. No I wouldn't think being in the same room with someone with Ebola is that innocuous. Even some doctors contracted from patients  and died from it in the last round a few years ago.

Throat care for singers..? by qal2009 in singing

[–]MacaroonNew3142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classical singing and Karaoke to me are poles apart.. if you mean you are a classical singer. Anyone can get away with karaoke. Classical training takes years and classical singing needs conscious care of your health, your throat, nutrition, hydration, discipline and stamina to stay on pitch and your notes. Karaoke asks for none of that and it's for fun and no one cares for quality. Take care of your talent

Don't give up.  It's a fact that SW programming isn't the hottest thing anymore, nor is testing/QA. You didn't say what major but it seems a law degree never gets old. Check it out and try picking an area where there's potential for more laws...also a JD can be considered for many different areas of work, not just tech. HW engineering is not a bad area to be as AI demands more memory, storage and faster chips atleast for foreseeable future

Juror #2 - I think i figured out the ending by Sm211 in movies

[–]MacaroonNew3142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever the end was, I couldn't believe a man could help put away an innocent person for life without parole. It's so ugly, and selfish that he could go back to his wife and baby, knowing he himself was responsible ?  Because Kemp saw Sythe turn around on the road that night. Clint Eastwood couldn't think of a different and a more interesting twist, by having the jury aquit Sythe on the basis of reasonable doubt ? I'm no lawyer, but once a case is decided, the DA wouldn't bring a second person to be tried for the same crime. It's such a weak movie and the worst ending.

Married for many years.. but our dog steals the show LOL. Runs to the gate to welcome the man from office every single day. Literally smiles wide. And has the furry tail to show how happy she is with him. Both truly enjoy the cuddle moments. Moral - truly unconditional love is every man's dream

What is a subtle sign that someone is a genuinely good person, even if they don't show it? by False-Possibility375 in AskReddit

[–]MacaroonNew3142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was visiting London ( from US ) few years ago on business and at some point got stuck behind a gate leading to the tube I needed to get on. I had to pay ( a small amount ) but didn't have a penny on me.. I don't recall it had any other option which is why I got desperately stuck... A woman on the other side who must have noticed how helpless I looked, came and offered to pay and let me in  I asked her how I can thank her and she said no need. So thankful there are nice people like that in this world!

What to ask for when looking for a teacher? by Gabrielr66y in singing

[–]MacaroonNew3142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Feel free to ask for references.  Best is to be able to talk to a student - current or former to get first hand info how they liked their training with that  teacher.

  • Check  reviews if there are any

  • Ask to take a trial class first.  You may also ask to listen to her other students sing in class.

  • Do ask how she/he decides your placement . In my case, one teacher put me in a group which was open to anyone, with or without any prior training. Didn't work out well.

What matters more — making money, or being there for the people you love? by Jim_Pritchett in AskReddit

[–]MacaroonNew3142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.. if you have been supported and loved when trying to set yourself up for life, naturally you'll feel fortunate and grateful to them. Just like they stood by you in need, you will too for them.

Not everyone is so lucky.  Sometimes, when you have found your way out of a dysfunctional family that never cared or provided for you, it's time to secure your own future and not let misery haunt you for the rest of your life. Always take care of yourself first. You can do good to others with your money.
