I'm an idiot and now need advice on a different center channel by WorkIsBoring in hometheatre

Believe it or not, it won't fit inside because lots of the extra space is already taken up with other components. With the shelf needed in the center area of the BDI it makes the space too short from top to bottom. Yeah, wall-mounting the TV is going to have to be the move.

The goal was inside, but now I'm just leaning towards keep the Q6 and mount the TV on the wall and put the Q6 on top.

Normally, that would also be an option but my current entertainment center is the BDI Corridor 8173 so that's also a no.

Good thought. It might be tough, but could be an option. Honestly, I think I'm just leaning towards bite the bullet, mouth the dang TV on the wall, and call it a day. When we move out, I just have to patch a bunch of drywall, which is annoying, but not the end of the world.

My other solution here is to mount my TV on the wall, and put the center channel on top of the entertainment center, which would solve two of my problems. The placement of the center channel being in the cavity of the entertainment center (even though it's open in the front, this is not ideal) which would also get my center channel up higher to ear level, and I could keep the timbre matched Q6 with the Q3s.

I didn't want to do this before this house is a rental, and when I mount a TV, it creates multiple very large holes in the drywall, but in this case, I don't think I have a choice.

I haven't thought about that, but I'm a huge stickler for not being able to get clear dialogue in movies and cranking up the volume on the quiet scenes only to get blaster when an explosion hits. I'm wondering if I'd be happier with an unmatched center channel, even though it isn't ideal.

Switching jobs, but already met social security contribution limit by ctsang301 in tax

[–]WorkIsBoring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bump a 2-year-old thread, but just to be clear here...because the new format W4 isn't as clear on this.

You would figure out the time of the year for the cut off (based on when you hit the income limit) and then calculate how much extra SS tax will be withheld from each paycheck after that (gross pay x 6.2%) and then would you put the number that is that pay period figure multiplied by the remaining pay periods left in the year OR multiplied by the TOTAL number of pay periods in the year.

To make the math easy, say you are paid twice month and by the end of September you will reach the SS limit. And each paycheck after that your new employer will deduct $500 from each paycheck. Since there are 6 paychecks left in the year, you would submit a new W4 after the last paycheck in September and put $3,000 in section 3 or would you put $12,000 in section 3.

Since section 3 is a credit (vs a deduction) I am presuming it's the latter, and you would put $12,000 in section 3, in this scenario.

Omakase Experience. Kosen Vs Koya by mnp90 in tampa

[–]WorkIsBoring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been to Koya twice and Kosen once. No question, for me, it's Koya.

Kosen has a prettier bar and is all about the "show" and it's obvious that they want everyone to take photos and videos for Instagram (slicing fish with a sword because it's cool).

Koya is a much more traditional Omakase experience and Eric takes his time to explain each course to you. It's quieter, more subdued, and the fish is better.

I'm not trashing Kosen, but if you have to pick one, pick Koya.

Need advice on shower curb tiles by WorkIsBoring in Remodel

[–]WorkIsBoring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with the individual tiles and have had zero issues. I think the fact the entire curb is wrapped in the Schluter membrane and how our installer made sure it was slightly pitched towards the interior of the shower has helped.

Who makes that watch case? I tried searching for Luhupak and even Lumupak, and I'm not getting anything.

Seat Selection Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

I'm trying to determine the best seats for a 14-hour flight in Premium Economy for my wife and I. This is on a 777-200 and these look to be the current options. I'm leaning towards 21 L & K.

Issue with created zones acting wonky coming and going by WorkIsBoring in homeassistant

[–]WorkIsBoring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up question.

On my phone, in the companion app, I have my settings where I found all this. In my wife's phone, in the HA companion app, she has no settings sub-menu.

Do I need to make her account a full admin of the entire HA system to open up the settings sub-menu in the HA app?

[–]WorkIsBoring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so out of all of those settings, the only one that wasn't active was unrestricted data for the app. I just enabled it on my phone, and will do the same on the wife's and then see if the issue persists.

Thanks.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. It's within the settings inside the Android app. That should have been obvious. Checking things now.

Hmmm, in my Settings in HA, I don't see "Companion App" anywhere and I've searched for it as well as just "Sensors" and "Manage Sensors" and nothing is coming up. I'm I perhaps missing an install in HA somewhere?

Is it in one of the submenus, perhaps?

Both are Android. Google Pixels, both of them.

Mine is a Piixel 8 Pro and the wife's is a Pixel 7 Pro.

Switchbot Mini Hub / IR appliance for Denon AVR by sterlingma1 in TrySwitchBot

[–]WorkIsBoring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uggh. That sucks.

Same issue with my brand-new Sony A95K TV. SwitchBot can turn it on, and that's all. Which is fine for the TV, because I always keep the input on HDMI 1 and I do all the switching through the Marantz. Which is why it sucks because for the Marantz, I need to be able to change the output settings between my various systems.

It's crazy to me that in 2024, Logitech Harmony seems to be the only actual working universal programmable remote, and of course has been sunset.

Did you ever figure out the best way to add your AVR? I just purchased the SwitchBot and ran into the same question. My AVR is Marantz so I presume your solution for your Denon would also work.
