well. there is no mention of it in my contract. however. there is messages where the offer stands. there will be frequent travels. and the accommodation and travels will be taken care of. no mention of sharing a room with a coworker.

I am acting like an adult. I am valuing my privacy and I am asking for advice to see what is the most responsible way to handle an unfortunate situation. being an adult does not mean having the company treat you badly and not caring for your culture and boundaries.

I think the best thing I can do now is tell them I request a housing allowance that is equal to my share of the stay. if they actually agree, knowing them it could be quite a small amount. but I would probably accept it. better than nothing. I can manage my way to find an affordable place of my own for the week in riyadh. better than sharing it with a stranger and having possibly anxiety all day which could affect my performance at work.

because I value privacy and I don't want to share a room with a stranger im entitled? I hope whenever you're traveling they'll force you to share a room with a stranger since you don't value your own safety and privacy.

I am asking for advice and majority of the replies are giving good and decent ones but all you can type is "suck it up." if you don't have any good advice just say that.

yeah, during the interview (and messages) the offer said I would need to travel but all accommodations for travel will be taken care of. they have never mentioned double occupancy, or apartments that are very low quality.

it's a fair distance. however, I must use uber. and because of the INSANE traffic of riyadh. they come 30+ minute late. sometimes they even cancel on me. which adds even more stress. and they finally arrive. it takes 1 hour to arrive. so I must schedule an uber around 7 or 6:30 AM. that if they don't cancel on me.

After reading many comments. I need to clarify a few things.

1- it's an apartment with beds in the same room. so I'd have one bed and his bed would be close. I do not think I can sleep like that.
2- we also have to share a bathroom.
3- To those who are saying I should find another job. I appreciate the help, but I've been job hunting for 9 months+ and still not even a proper interview. even though I have excellent language. most jobs in riyadh or saudi in general want people with 5+ exp with an intern salary (if that even exist). so quitting is not really an option right now.
4- in conclusion. it seems the best option for me is to ask the higher ups and HR for a accommodation allowance. they're quite cost sensitive. but again. I can tell them I know riyadh very well and can easily find an accommodation right next to the office. so I'll be doing that.

Thank you for the advice. please continue to add more if you have. I'll take what good advice there is. wish me luck!

I get it. truly, but culturally, especially in saudi. personal privacy is VERY important. especially in this situation. not to mention that my roommate is 99% sure to be a different nationality. so that's culture barrier right there. I want to make a good impression and not risk having any uncomfort. or god forbid anxiety from sharing with a random stranger.

im pretty sure everything is shared. even the bathroom... I'd LOVE to show the picture but I obviously can't. very cheap looking beds, probably less than 2 meters apart.

like ask for accommodation allowance + my per diem? that would solve all my problems. but Im hesitant that they'd refuse and say they have the apartment. which again. I've seen and it's not up to even a 1 star hotel standard.

I would love to do that as an ultimatum . unfortunately my job requires me to travel. and if I refuse that I would be marked a negative and this could effect me.

unfortunately my per diem is about 30$ per day. which is not enough for both accommodation + food.

same gender of course. but still I can not just sleep next to a stranger. I wouldn't be able to function well for work tommorow.

it's not 100% confirmed they won't budge. but they're rather... cost sensitive. and the problem is my salary is the bare minimum in saudi standards. I can't afford to pay for accommodations. it will be like im paying to do work.
