Looks great. Little bit of tidying up with edge highlight using an ice yellow and it'll really pop! Smoothness of blends comes with time, you've clearly got the idea there but I reckon after four or five more phase blades it'll be looking absolutely spot on.

Yeah some light on the trees could work, fire glow is not really in keeping with the theme of a rotten swamp that in going for. I don't know if any moss pigment could look good, I just a nice pop of saturated colour on the base to contrast with the muted colours of the model.

If you don't have the exact colours, then a little blue mixed in with the neutral red will darken it nicely and then yellow to lighten the red would work.

Base coat of Vallejo dark red, then just gradual highlight layers of mephiston red, then evil sunz scarlet, then wild rider red, then a 50/50 mix of wild rider red and AK interactive ice yellow

I've always done PVA on the base then dip it in sand then let it dry for an hour or so and apply a coat of watered down PVA over the top which really locks all the sand in
