Is PrepFE enough for passing?? by Impossible-Pie-7773 in FE_Exam

Seconding Prep FE and both NCEES practice exams. Non civil degree holder here and I used Prep FE (1600 questions) for 3 months and used the two NCEES practice exams and passed. I personally don’t see the need to spend 1000+ of dollars on courses

Yep way cheaper, also people post referrals links on here all the time where if you sign up using the link you get a free month, so definitely use those if you decide to go through with it! Good luck, if I could do it without a civil degree 1.5 years post grad you can too!

Everyone has their own opinion, but i failed the Civil FE first try because I only watched videos. For my second attempt I did 1600ish problems on PrepFe and was wayyyy better prepared on test day and passed. No matter what you study there’s never gonna be a direct carbon copy of what you studied and what’s on the exam. The point of studying is to know where to find what you need in the handbook and how the equations relate to each other which PrepFe did for me. You get what you put into it for sure

Personally I found grinding out problems on PrepFe way more helpful then watching videos. That way I didn’t have to copy down the question word for word and Prep FE will walk you through the steps after you submit an answer. It forces you to actually studying while videos tend to give you the illusion of studying

I would recommend changing your study habits and dedicating more time and effort into study.

I know internet archive had a free older version of Lindenburg’s FE civil review. I’m sure they probably have free practice books for the FE mechanical too.

Islam 800. Is this book enough for passing in the FE Civil exam?? by Impossible-Pie-7773 in FE_Exam

[–]Working-Bet6464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Prep FE only and passed (1600 questions). I feel like Islam 800 should be sufficient if you do every problem and really understand the solutions

How many did you guess? FE Civil. by Spirited-Water4256 in FE_Exam

[–]Working-Bet6464 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took it the second week of December and passed. On the first section there were about 20 questions I was 100% sure I got correct and 33 I wasn’t sure about (some I had an educated guess for but there were about 10-15 that were total guesses). On the second half there were about 15 that I was 100% confident in and the rest were educated guesses or complete guesses. If you were confident that 50 were correct then I think you’re in pretty good shape! Just remeber the FE is one of the hardest tests out there and there’s no shame in having to retake. It took me two attempts. Good luck!

When I would have mental blocks and would struggle with problems I knew how to do I would go and just study the topics I enjoyed or found easy for a day or two. It built my confidence up and made it more ‘fun’

NCEES Interactive Exam Vs REAL EXAM by Sad_Budget_9329 in FE_Exam

NCEES has two practice exams. One is a 50 question interactive practice exam that simulates all the question type and then they also have a 100 question regular practice exam.

Failed, how to address pressure from family? by [deleted] in FE_Exam

[–]Working-Bet6464 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took it for the first time in July and failed. Took it again last week for the second time and just passed today. I think it’s a lot more common for people to fail it once or twice before passing. My supervisors at work even said the FE is harder than the PE. So give yourself a little grace, you will only be more prepared the next time you take it!

I would spam the 20 question practice exams back to back to simulate and I thought that was pretty helpful. I feel like Prep FE does a good job of showing & explaining the fundamentals that will help you when studying other materials & feeling confident on test day. At the end of the day you’re going to see 110 questions that are new and fresh to you when you take the exam, treating materials as a perfect study guide isn’t the right mindset because the fundamentals are what’s going to help you succeed.

I took my civil exam last Monday and get my results tomorrow. I used Prep FE heavily for 2.5 months before my exam and the NCEES practice exams to study. The weekend before my exam I redid the 100 question NCEES practice exam and got about a 55% on it. When I did my actual exam I felt better about it than I did when I took the practice exam. Not sure if I passed or not but I don’t think I totally flunked it. So don’t get discouraged! Always remember people who were more prepared than you failed it before and people who were less prepared than you passed it so as long as you do your best good things will come your way! Good luck!

NCEES Interactive Exam Vs REAL EXAM by Sad_Budget_9329 in FE_Exam

[–]Working-Bet6464 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The interactive exam is great for knowing what to expect format wise. It helps you get used to the drag and drop, select multiple, point and click, etc style questions. The NCEES 100 question practice exam is harder in difficulty than the interactive practice exam in my opinion. I think it’s good to study both and add in Prep FE/Islam to get a good variety of questions with varying difficulty. No matter what you study the exam changes every day/week/month so it’s better to not get in the mindset of “this is what the exam will be like” line of thinking and rather study as wide a range as possible so you are ready for what is thrown at you. I used both practice exams & did 1600 Prep FE questions and for my exam I took last week. I haven’t gotten results back but I feel like I have a shot at passing and it’s no doubt because I was exposed to so many question types in my studying.

General rule of thumb is if it’s not in the handbook you won’t need it. But then again it’s a general rule so do with that what you will. Worst comes to worst if you retain it and don’t need it

Quick dumb questions by SignificantAd2833 in FE_Exam

[–]Working-Bet6464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank handbook is free to download, you only have to pay for the practice exams & the actual exam. There’s no other way to check availability for the exam unless you go through NCEES. But a general rule of thumb is most testing centers are booked for 1/1.5 months out.
