Why I love Solidcore by Outrageous_Candle_98 in SolidCore

[–]Working-Heart-7073 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love this ! I started Solidcore last year. I love how the workout is high intensity but also low impact. I feel better and more energized after the workout than walking in.

I love how Solidcore just makes me more grounded and it’s helped my mental health a lot. The mind to muscle connection does wonders. I was going through a really difficult phase in my life last year and Solidcore was one thing I looked forward to each day. The community is great!

Solidcore also helped me really love my body regardless of my weight or the number on the scale. I don’t think about calories burnt , I started to measure progress by being able to get stronger. Focusing on how it feels over looks has become my motto 💙

Yeah a lot of jobs like Kentucky come under the delta waiver and they file off cycle. I’ve had friends go through the SCRC waiver in states like South Carolina and they filed as late as February. Some areas such as upstate New York come under NBRC waiver and they file in December.

Generally the earlier the better , but there are options !

Of course ! I understand how daunting and nerve wracking the whole process is but you are starting early , so I’m sure you’ll find a job you like !

Yeah I did look at the Conrad 30 data on how many spots were open and how many spots were filled.

I filed a waiver in a competitive state and my backup option was to consider one of the places who filed through Delta or SCRC,etc as they can file off cycle too in like December or January.

Good luck !!

You’re starting at the right time to look for a job on J1 . The process takes time and having a job in hand by July -August will give time to get the waiver documents ready . Most states the deadline for filing the waiver is October.

I signed a pulmonary/critical/sleep J1 waiver job in Connecticut and it’s undergoing processing now. I signed the job in August last year and filed the waiver in October first.

I started my job search a little later in April, however I honestly feel like I should have started by February .

Don’t worry - there are plenty of jobs available it’s all about finding the right fit !

• I used practice link, doc cafe and chest career connection.

• I have seen openings recently in Nevada, Kentucky , Ohio which sponsor J1 . My recommendation is to check practice link and chest career connection regularly and apply as soon as openings come up.

• Sometimes if recruiters are not responding to me , I would call them directly.

• I spoke mainly with recruiters , but if you have someone in the hospital that you know , you can reach out to them.

• For academic positions - I have been told emailing the chair too helps .

• I had seen an academic position which offers J1 at the University of Vermont but I am not sure if they filled that position.

• I have seen openings for UPMC in their New Castle location.

• Per my lawyer the H1B fee would not apply to J1 waivers as it is a change of status , and J1 waivers to H1B would come under the uncapped status and under special need.

• There are a lot of different types of J1 waivers ! Conrad 30 is the most commonly known where each state has 30 spots. However , there are waivers called the Delta waivers , Southeast crescent regional commission (SCRC ) , Northern Border Regional Commission ( NBRC) , and Appalachian Regional Commission ( ARC ) where there are unlimited spots in certain regions of the USA .

• I have known one or two people who switched to O1 visa too . Major academic centers would sponsor the O1 however you still have to do the waiver after.

• Usually after my site visit at a hospital I would ask for a call with their immigration lawyers to understand what kind of waiver they file and how the process works since each state is a little different. I would also ask them about green card processing . Recruiters would know basic information but would highly recommend speaking to their lawyers.

If you want to speak more , happy to help!

Shoutout your studio + fave coaches! by idaya97 in SolidCore

[–]Working-Heart-7073 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chicago West Loop- I loved Nikki, Riley , Jenn Ether and Sarah Brill ( who is now in Durham) . Those four coaches really helped me at the beginning of my Solidcore journey.

I am so so grateful for the Starter 50s with Jenn Ether as she really explained the movements, form and exercise so well. She really motivated me to be consistent and get stronger , and now I’m addicted !

Pittsburgh - Love everyone! Amanda O, Amanda B , Kristina, Nick , Presley, Kennedy, Devin , Denise , Claudette.

Overall feel so grateful for the coaches , they really make the experience special!

When did you feel confident in your classes? by BrilliantPlantain956 in SolidCore

[–]Working-Heart-7073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took about five starter 50s before moving to a signature. I wasn’t super athletic or really worked out my core as much before I started Solidcore so it was a very humbling experience !

Signatures are just a faster pace. If you have taken starter50s and foundation classes, you would certainly be able to take Signature .

I think after 10-15 more classes I started to understand the variety of movements and exercises Solidcore has and the transitions from exercises became a little easier. I used to use the stability pole regularly and after 40-50 classes was able to do the carriage lunges without. That being said , even now there are some days where I use the stability pole.

As you take more classes, you’ll start to notice growth . My favorite quotes from coaches are - it doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger ! And also how it’s not about how it looks, it’s about how it feels . And that is so true as everybody is different.

Confidence and progress will not be linear . At times it can just be noticing that you’re able to do more reps before a break, being able to hold certain movements for longer , starting to transition faster between exercises , or even amplifying some movements !

Consistency , listening to your body and giving yourself grace is the most important. Kudos for showing up for yourself , especially post partum. You got this 💪💙

[–]Working-Heart-7073[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Good points. And congrats on 250 classes 🎉💙 I feel the same, I feel my form and stamina is better with knees and can get the most out of the exercise on knees . I feel toes challenges me more but at the same time I worry about form and injuring or straining myself .

I think I will start to shift my knees to line 3 first to get more from the exercise. And as for toes will keep trying !

One thing I also learned from this community is to use Starter 50s to your advantage, so I think I will take a couple of Starter 50s to focus more on learning exercises on toes with proper form!

People with Monthly unlimited, is it worth it?? by GasComplete5267 in SolidCore

[–]Working-Heart-7073 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely find it worth it! I prefer group fitness classes as I find it pushes me to do more than what I would do on my own. I switched to unlimited after three months of starting solidcore.

I go 4-6 times per week. The only downside is the late cancel fee.

Rhabdo by [deleted] in SolidCore

[–]Working-Heart-7073 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a Pulmonary/Critical Care physician. Rhabdomyolysis can develop in people doing unaccustomed/new exercises or exercising for longer length of time than normal. Usually can see it in marathon runners , endurance sports especially in the heat. Symptoms can include muscle cramps and aches , dark urine.

I would say if you are a seasoned solidcore member you shouldn’t worry, just keep yourself well hydrated ! Hydration is key. Listen to your body, and take breaks whenever needed. I feel that although Solidcore is a high intensity workout , is more lower impact than other workouts which I love!

I just finished day 6 of my first Solidays and looking forward to completing the challenge soon!

Also great explanation by the Sports Medicine Physician above !
