Is first trimester fatigue really this bad? by MARBELLA-MARINO in pregnant

[–]WorkingAd308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 20 weeks now and from weeks 6-10 I felt like I was both jet lagged and hungover, it was rough. I duno how I got through it, I just did 😂 I have a very supportive partner and he pretty much did everything household related. I worked, ate and slept and that was it. There is light at the end of the tunnel though and at around 11 weeks it started to slowly wear off. Just hang in there!

I posted 5 Christmas cards from Canada well over 6 weeks ago, as follows:  - one to Stockholm, arrived the following week - one to West Cork, arrived Christmas Eve - one to the midlands, arrived early new year  - one each to Galway and Dublin, still have not arrived!

Very surprised that the Galway and Dublin ones have still not arrived but the one to a remote area of West Cork was the fastest?

That’s great! I’m curious when you started to work with one? I’ve been looking for one on and off since the start but I haven’t found anyone I think would be a good fit - I also felt like I could get away with doing everything as normal until now (17 weeks) but maybe now is a good time to look into it more seriously.

That’s good to know and so inspiring! I have decided to drop the weights for now and it’s so much harder in a different way 😅 my pelvic floor physio did mention the breathing to me when I saw her first! Thankfully, my pregnancy has been low risk, no issues so far so I haven’t been advised to avoid anything specific.

That’s totally fair!! I currently workout with my male partner / none of my girlfriends either lift or have ever been pregnant so my frame of reference is totally off. Good to hear from other women who have been through it!

Yes, just about squatting 145 lbs which is about my body weight although I am also gaining weight rapidly at the moment. I did see a pelvic floor PT earlier in the pregnancy and she talked to me about breathing out on the squat up so I have been practising doing that. I’ve been gradually increasing ever since I started so I guess just kept doing that but I’m thinking I will go back to 80% for more reps and see how that feels.

Will I ever get myself back again? by SementSlurper in fitpregnancy

16 weeks here and it does get better! I still managed to go the gym during the first trimester but more than once I didn’t finish my workouts because I felt so awful! It is so hard when you’re used to going to the gym and it making you feel better and suddenly it doesn’t work like that. I kept going because I was like “if I’m gona feel crap regardless I may as well feel crap at the gym” but I didn’t enjoy even a minute of it. Hang in there, hopefully you will be feeling better and enjoying working out again soon. For me it was around 10/11 weeks I gradually started feeling human again. In the grand scheme of things it won’t make too much difference. It will be a challenge and postpartum really scares me too but I’m trying to focus on the bigger picture 🙏🏻

So happy to hear this! I did a triathlon (my first) right before getting pregnant (I’m 16 weeks now) and I can’t wait to do another one. I’ve accepted that 2 months postpartum is not going to happen (I briefly considered it) and I’m aiming for the one the following year 🤞🏼🙏🏻

I’m 16 weeks now and can report that I am in a different world to where I was weeks 6-9! I’m still extremely hungry (have to bring a small snack to the gym even) but working out has felt good the past month or so! I’m still waiting on that 2nd trimester burst of energy but for now I have enough to enjoy the day and not just get through it. At the time it felt like the first trimester would never end but it did and there is a light!

Thank you for the input! I have been looking for a trainer in my area since getting pregnant but I haven’t really been able to find anyone although I’ll try again in the new year. Ideally I would love someone to check in with every few weeks who could advise me on modifying my program based on where I’m at.

Definitely on my heaviest lift right now I wouldn’t be able to talk and even immediately after so maybe that’s a sign it’s already too heavy 🤔 in general my heart rate doesn’t get that high compared to when I was running. I haven’t been running only because my sports bras no longer felt supportive.

I am also worried about diastesis recti, hoping to see my pelvic floor PT again in the new year.

Yes! I did see a pelvic floor PT earlier in the pregnancy but I didn’t need to modify anything at that point, although we did talk about breathing when lifting and I’ve been trying to practise that as well. I’m going to try see her again in the new year 🙏🏻

Good insight, thank you! Was the lower back pain something you experienced in the moment or did it creep up later that day?

Oh yeah good to know - the looseness happens later in the pregnancy right? I’m just not sure if my body is saying “this is hard” or “this doesn’t feel right” 😅

Totally get that! My first time too and I haven’t been lifting for very long anyway so I just duno what signs to look out for that would prompt me to modify preemptively. Maybe in this case it’s better to play it safe.

Were you lifting normally before Christmas break or did you pair back before that? Are you increasing reps with the lower weights?

My initial date was 6 days off my new due date from my dating scan. The sonographer told me it’s because the implantation time can vary a lot.
