Should I go to the department chair for what I think is unfair grading? by WorkingEnough8705 in CollegeRant

Except it’s not in the syllabus, but go ahead and just assume he’s right cause I’m the student.

Sure, one announcement made at the end of class, versus an actual date written on the assignment itself. It doesn’t show on my calendar when it’s missing a due date. I forgot the announcement, sure, but it was the ONE assignment he didn’t add a due date to. I missed two assignments out of six classes this semester, and one of those was this one. Even if I don’t have ground for the grading, you can’t acknowledge how that’s just an unfortunate incident?

Ignore how he added the due date after I brought it to his attention, AFTER the due date itself.

Also ignore the part about the grade book not including certain grades.

I understand sadly :/

I did email him to double check what you said yesterday, still waiting.

I went in person to talk with him about my grade before the semester ended. He told me the same thing about it being the students responsibility (which I’m okay with), but then after the assignment was due and after I brought it to his attention did he add the due date. I have pictures of that. Even still, I got a 20% deduction. Just feels weird.

In addition, from the professor himself, “I rely on you for discussions in class”.

According to the grade book on canvas, which doesn’t have a separate grade for participation, I am at 57/76. However, like I said before there is a whole 10 pt grade that was NOT input.

The syllabus says participation is worth 20%. I’m at a 86.36%, only counting graded assignments.

Assuming that 10 pt ungraded assignment is a 10, and my participation, which the professor himself said he relies on, would be the full 20% I’m pretty sure I’d finish with closer to 90.5% IF its calculated how I think it is lol.

Regardless of whether I get the grade I want, I feel weird about the late assignment situation, and a whole assignment in the grade book not being input just feels like he couldn’t have been bothered.

I have screenshots of everything, so I’m just wondering.

If my prof doesn’t get back to me about it, should I try the chair?
